The federal government has refuted the rumour making the rounds that it has imposed another lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19, which has reportedly entered a second wave in the country and spreading dangerously.

The National Coordinator, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, in a short video message, said: โ€œWeโ€™re aware of a fake message that has been going round on WhatsApp that weโ€™ve declared a lockdown in the country. Thatโ€™s absolutely not true. I call on the general public to please ignore this message and continue with their normal activities.

โ€œIโ€™m also calling on the public to please abide by our non-pharmaceutical interventions, including wearing of facemasks in the public, washing their hands and keeping physical distance.

โ€œThereโ€™s an established way we send out to the public, including declarations when it comes to infection control. So, please ignore what has been going round on WhatsApp.โ€
