Properties worth millions of naira were, on Thursday, destroyed by fire, which razed six shops around the Ogudu Police Barracks in the Ogudu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the fire, which started from one of the 17 shops in a row, spread to six other shops and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the fire, whose cause could not be ascertained, started in the early hours of the day.
Our correspondent learnt that the inferno destroyed two fashion designers’ shops, a pawn shop, event planning wares shop, a sports betting outlet and a barber’s shop.
It was gathered that the timely arrival of firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading to the other shops.
The Head, Public Affairs, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, who confirmed the incident said, “On arrival at the incident scene, the fire started from one of shops in a row. There are 17 shops in total and six shops were affected and damaged by the inferno, while 11 were salvaged.” (Punch)
