Foundation donates 10,000 plastic bottles to Lagos school as tuition fees (Leadership)
In a bid to support education in Nigeria, the Helen Trust Care Foundation recently paid a visit to Morit International School in the remote area of Ajegunle in Lagos State.
Morit International School is known for its unique payment system that allows students to use empty plastic bottles as a form of payment for their school fees.
This system was put in place to enable students from low-income families to continue their education without the burden of tuition fees.
Police arrest grandmother, 39 others for kidnapping, robbery (Guardian)
Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a grandmother and 39 other suspects, for armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy, cultism, stealing, and possession of hard drugs.
The aged woman, arrested for receiving stolen goods from suspects, were paraded alongside others at the Officers Mess, Ikeja, Lagos.
Parading the suspects, spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects confessed to being active members of Aiye Confraternity, and also involved in the killing of rival cult group members and innocent residents during cult related clashes. Read more

Customs arraign ex-US marine for alleged firearms importation (Punch)
A former United States Marine, Donn Perkins, was on Thursday arraigned by the Nigerian Customs Service before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over the alleged unlawful importation of firearms into the country.
The American was arraigned on a four-count offence before Justice Abimbola Awogboro.
The prosecutor, Mrs Kehinde Bode-Ayeni, told the court that the defendant was sometimes arrested in February 2023 at Tin-Can Island, Apapa, Lagos State. Read more

2 Nigerians get UN posthumous peacekeeping award (Vanguard)
The United Nations on Thursday honoured two Nigerians and 101 other military, police and civilian peacekeepers, who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2022.
The two Nigerians are Police Sergeant Nasiru Bawa, and Police Inspector Saratu Haruna, who both served with the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

One day after the legendary performer died at the age of 83, her cause of death has been attributed to natural causes, her representatives confirmed to DailyMail.com. Her publicist also told NBC News her death came after a long illness.

Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes sentenced to 18 years for Capitol riot (BBC)
The leader of a far-right militia has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the US Capitol riot.
Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers, was convicted on charges of seditious conspiracy and other crimes.
The sentence is the longest yet given to a Capitol rioter. Prosecutors had asked for 25 years.

A Rwandan man accused of ordering the killing of 2,000 people during the country’s 1994 genocide has been arrested in South Africa.
Former police officer Fulgence Kayishema’s alleged victims included children and elderly people from the Tutsi ethnic group who were taking refuge in a Catholic church.
