The Do Foundation International, Rivers State Chapter, has raised the alarm over freedom granted to one Mr. Lucky, accused of defiling his two underage daughters.
The Foundation was worried that the Amadiama Police Station, which arrested the man on allegations of sexually abusing his daughters, later detained and granted him bail for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The Rivers Chairperson of the Foundation, Uchechi Wachukwu, therefore appealed to the Commissioner of Police and the Rivers Government to rearrest the suspect to ensure justice for his two traumatised daughters.
Uchechi, a lawyer, explained that she, the Vice-Chairperson, Mrs. Ebi Igilibiodo and the National Head of Programme, Ukela Prince, uncovered the matter when they visited a community secondary school in Amadiama.
She said: “We got a distress call about a father allegedly defiling two of his daughters aged 17 in SS2 and 13 in JSS2 respectively. This incident has been going on since 2019 for the 17-year-old and 2020 for the 13-year-old until when the 13-year-old reported to her head teacher, who now reported to the principal.
“Our National President was contacted and she immediately reached out to our team, the Do Foundation Rivers State team to follow up. We were able to see the principal, who narrated their own side of the story to us.
“The 17-year-old daughter was called upon and we interviewed her to hear her own side of the story. She said her father did not defile her, but only fingered her and her younger sister.
“And that she reported to the mum, who on one occasion caught the dad trying to molest her, they fought and she advised the daughter to stab her father whenever he came to her and also advised her not to tell anyone that she would handle it, but it still continued.”
Throwing more light on the incident, the Vice-Chairman, Ebi Igilibiodo, said the girls were rescued and taken to protective custody.
She said the foundation protested the release of the culprit, immediately made a fresh entry of sexual assault and asked the police to rearrest him.
Reacting to the incident, the National President of Do Foundation International, Dise Sheila Ogbise, said she was saddened by rising cases of close relatives and guardians sexually abusing and molesting their children and dependents.
She called on the Rivers State Police command to expedite action on the investigation of the case and ensure the prosecution of the father. The Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, could not be reached for his comments. (Nation)
