Girl goes missing during RCCG thanksgiving service (Punch)
The family of a four-year-old girl, Aisha Taiwo, has become distraught after she went missing during the monthly thanksgiving service at the national headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ebute Meta, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Aisha and her nine-year-old brother, Malik, accompanied their 60-year-old blind grandma to the church.
According to Aisha’s uncle, Abdulwasiu Esuola, the church had a combined thanksgiving service in the main auditorium. Read more
Guard ‘defiles’ daughter, three other minors (Nation)
65-year-old security guard, Yisa Showunmi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling four under aged girls, including his daughter (names withheld).
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde said the defendant committed the offence between 2010 and 2019.
Ayorinde told the court that the four survivors were all 16 years old. Read more
Alleged killer accuses woman of murdering her husband, mistress (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, announced the arrest of one Promise Oguegbu for allegedly killing an accountant, Rasaki Balogun, and his mistress, Muyibat Alabi, in the Ejigbo area of the state.
PUNCH Metro had reported that Balogun’s wife, Akorede, who discovered the corpses of her husband and Alabi at his second home, reported the incident to the police.
It was gathered that police investigation led to Oguegbu, who was arrested. Read more
Woman ‘dupes Bureau de Change operator of N4.2m’ (Nation)
A woman, Laura Inmanze, who allegedly defrauded a Bureau de Change operator, Nura Mustapha, of N4.2 million, was on Wednesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Inmanze, 24, was arraigned by the police before Mrs A. M. Olumide-Fusika on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and theft.
Prosecuting Inspector Ben Ekundayo alleged that the defendant committed the offences at about 2:30pm on June 21, at 7, Kalama Street, Lagos Island. Read more
Fake army captain’, two others charged with forgery, assault (Nation)
Three men, who allegedly forged documents belonging to the Olatunji Ruling House of Badagry, Lagos, assaulted two princes and damaged N55m properties, were Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The first to third defendants are: Agosu Thomas, 47; Atunisha Isidore, 59, who allegedly claimed to be a Nigerian Army Captain and Segun Alfred Awhanmienu, 46,
They were arraigned by the police on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, forgery, threat to life, assault occasioning harm, willful destruction of property and impersonation. Read more
Woman in court for allegedly assaulting man, resisting arrest (Punch)
The Police on Tuesday docked Confidence Nwachukwu, at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly resisting lawful arrest and assaulting a man.
The defendant, 25, who resides at Alapere in Lagos, is facing three counts bordering on assault and resisting lawful arrest.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Sgt. Eucharia Okpa, a Police officer attached to Alapere Police Station, reported the matter on July 3. Read more
How police stray bullet killed my father, witness tells court (Nation)
An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Tuesday heard that a pedestrian, Adams Bello, was killed in August 2016 at Okokomaiko in Ojo, Lagos, when he was hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by Police Sergeant, Emmanuel Uyanweke.
Bello’s son, Afeez, told Justice Adedayo Akintoye that the bullet hit his father in the chest.
He testified as the first prosecution witness in Uyanweke’s trial for manslaughter. Read more
Man pleads guilty to parading self as soldier (Punch)
A Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday remanded one Shile Musa, after he pleaded guilty to stealing and parading himself as an army corporal at a Mammy Market in Badagry.
Musa, 30, whose address was not provided, faces two counts of stealing and parading himself as an army corporal.
The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, remanded Musa in prison and adjourned the case until July 15 for review of the facts of the case and sentencing. Read more
Three truck conductors allegedly beat man to death over phone theft (Punch)
An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Monday heard how three truck conductors tied up one Nse-Obong Idodo with a rope and beat him to death for allegedly stealing a phone.
The Prosecution Witness, ASP. Roland Ayeme, made the disclosure while giving evidence as the first prosecution witness in the trial of the three truck conductors.
The accused included, Bashiru, Abdulatif and Ajibola. Read more
