Hoodlum kills Lagos community leader during police raid (Punch)
A suspected hoodlum has killed a community leader, Oluwafemi Emmanuel, in the Agege area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim had on Friday accompanied a team of policemen to Akerele Street, where the operatives planned to raid some black spots.
It was gathered that some hoodlums, who accosted the operatives around 10pm, challenged them on their presence in the area.
The 53-year-old victim was said to have attempted to calm them down and explained the police’s mission in the community. Read more
Court remands 2 cousins over alleged murder of Maersk MD’s wife (Guardian)
An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded two cousins: Olamilekan Goke and Akande Adeyinka, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre over alleged rape and murder of the 44-year-old Mrs Bernadetta Tohouo-Tohouo.
The Hungarian is the wife of Mr Gildas Tohouo-Tohouo, the Managing Director of Maersk Nigeria Ltd.
Goke, 33, of No. 22, Elepe St., Ikorodu and Adeyinka, 27, of No.12, Odunlami St., Shomolu respectively, were arraigned before Justice Modupe Nico-Clay by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
The defendants are standing trial on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, armed robbery and rape.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts. Read more
Police arrest northern youths at Lagos border (Punch)
A truckload of northerners has been arrested by the police at the Kara end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The PUNCH gathered that the men were being transported to Lagos with cows in the same container.
The Divisional Police Officer of Kara said she was not aware of the arrest.

EFCC arrests 16 suspected fraudsters in Lagos, Ogun (DailyTrust)
Lagos zonal office operatives’ of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 16 suspects for allegedly defrauding foreign and local businessmen.
The suspected internet fraudsters, otherwise known as ‘yahoo-yahoo boys’ were arrested from their hideout in Ota, Ogun State, and Victoria Island, Lagos.
The suspected internet fraudsters arrested during a raid in Ota, Ogun State were Adeshina Michael, Ayeni Emiloju, Odenigbo Anthony, Afolabi Gbenga and Oyibogbola David Seun. Read more
Man stabs lover to death in Lagos, commits suicide (Punch)
A man, Chris Ndukwe, has reportedly committed suicide after stabbing his lover, Olamide Alli, to death at his place of residence on the Victory Point Estate in the Ilasan area of Lagos State.
Although the reasons for Ndukwe’s action remain unclear, PUNCH Metro gathered that the 39-year-old and Olamide had been in a complicated relationship that produced two children and they were living apart in the Ilasan and Ogba areas of the state.
Before the tragic incident, it was learnt that Olamide and her yet-to-be-identified sister visited Ndukwe in his house, and while the children and Olamide’s sister slept in a room, the lovers were said to have slept in another room. Read more
Detectives arrest popular nightclub owner over alleged money laundering (Guardian)
Popular nightclub owner and Instagram celebrity, Okechukwu popularly called ‘Cubana Chief Priest’ has been arrested by detectives attached to the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit. Okechukwu is the proprietor of posh nightclub, The Cubana with outlets on Lagos Island and Ikeja.
Top police sources at the Police Force Headquarters annex in Lagos told The Guardian that he is being held in custody for money laundering, reckless use of policemen and questionable lavish lifestyle.
The club owner was seen on his social media page displaying foreign currencies, which raised the attention of detectives. Read more
