This is contained in a statement Monday evening by Mr. Willie Bassey, Director, Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The statement said the appointed Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and the Comptroller General of Customs are to act in their positions, pending their confirmation by the National Assembly. Read more
FG, Labour resume dialogue over subsidy remova l(Nation)
Representatives of the Federal Government and Organised Labour are meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to resume negotiations on how to cushion the harsh realities of fuel subsidy removal.
The meeting is a follow up on the last session where some agreements were reached and Labour agreed to suspend its planned strike until further talks scheduled for today.
The meeting is expected to take decision on the demands by the Organised Labour and the proposed palliatives from government to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal. Read more

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee ( NWC) will meet with critical stakeholders in the party, including former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate president, David Mark, immediate past governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Others expected at the meeting, which is scheduled to hold at the National Secretariat, in Abuja, are the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, former Senate president, Bukola Saraki; Ahmed Markafi as well as select members of the two chambers of the National Assembly.

Sanwo-Olu, Rhodes-Vivour’s candidacy, unlawful – Jandor tells tribunal (Vanguard)
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship Candidate, Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor on Monday, told the Lagos State Election Tribunal that the processes that led to the sponsorship candidacy of the Governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of All Progressives Congress, APC, and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, LP, was unlawful.
Jandor said this while being cross-examined by the leading counsel for APC, Mr. Muiz Banire, SAN.
He said a party was valid to have sponsored a candidate validly if the section of the electoral act preceded the sponsorship of such a candidate. Read more
Family demands justice for slain Lagos cop, tackles Nigerian Navy (Punch)
The family of late Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hezekiah Abiona, has said officials of the Nigerian Navy abandoned them after two naval ratings stabbed their breadwinner to death in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the ratings, including Onyekachi Egwin and Nnamani Anointing, while dressed in mufti, were on a motorcycle when Abiona and his colleagues flagged them down on Oluti Street, Satellite Town.
The action of the policemen was said to have infuriated the ratings and an argument ensued between them. Read more
President dissolves boards of MDAs spares INEC, 13 others (Leadership)
President Bola Tinubu has also approved the immediate dissolution of the governing boards of all federal government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies.
According to a statement by the director, information, in the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, Wily Bassey, the dissolution does not, however, affect Boards, Commissions and Councils listed in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The exempted agencies include Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and 13 others. Read more

Residents hail plan to rehabilitate Kaduna community roads (Guardian)
Residents of Ungwar Romi and Janruwan communities in Chikun Local Council of Kaduna State, yesterday, expressed joy over the award of community access roads for construction and rehabilitation by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
The two community roads were abandoned for several years by previous governments in the state, thereby hampering human and vehicular movements as well as businesses in the communities.

US and China pledge to stabilise tense relationship after talks (BBC)
The US and China have pledged to stabilise their tense relationship following US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s two-day visit to Beijing.

3 hospitalised in random axe attacks at 3 Chinese restaurants in New Zealand (UPI)
An axe-wielding assailant entered three Chinese restaurants and attacked diners in the Auckland, New Zealand, suburb of Albany.
The police presence in the Auckland North Shore area remained elevated on Monday after a 24-year-old male Chinese national allegedly injured multiple people in random attacks, causing three to be hospitalized.
The attacks took place at three Chinese restaurants, Zhang Liang Malatang, Yue’s Dumpling Kitchen and Maya Hotpot, at about 9pm on Monday. The restaurants are located near one another on Corinthian Drive. Read more

Legislators in the United Kingdom have voted to approve a report that recommended sanctioning former Prime Minister Boris Johnson for lying to parliament about boozy, law-breaking parties held during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The House of Commons voted 354 to seven on Monday to endorse the privileges committee’s report, which concluded that the former leader should have his parliamentary pass revoked. Had he not already quit, it would have also recommended a 90-day suspension from parliament.
Johnson abruptly resigned from parliament 10 days ago after seeing an advance copy of the report, calling the inquiry a “witch hunt”. Read more
