Actress Funke Akindele has celebrated 14 years of playing the character ‘Jenifa’ in her self-titled series.
The movie producer made this known via Instagram.
“Been playing the #jenifa character for 14 years,” she wrote.
Funke Akindele came into the limelight after starring in the popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-sponsored sitcom “I Need to Know”, which ran from 1998 to 2002. She played Bisi, a curious but highly intelligent secondary school student.
However, Mrs. Bello’s massive break came in 2008 when she appeared in the movie “Jenifa” where she played the main character Suliyat aka Jenifa, a comedy-drama that portrays the life of a young girl from the village struggling to make headway in the city.
With the immense success of the movie, the superstar announced “Jenifa” would be developed into a television series “Jenifa’s Diary.”
The sitcom, “Jenifa’s Dairy” has seen recorded huge success with 24 seasons and 292 episodes. Funke co-produces and directs the series with her husband JJC Skillz. (Nation)
