Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage has landed his next movie role, as the long-gestating adaptation of The Thicket has finally begun principal photography.
Based on the Joe R Lansdale novel of the same name, the dark western thriller is set at the turn-of-the-century and follows a young man who sets off on a mission to rescue his sister from a gang and its violent leader.
To do so, he assembles his own gang, consisting of a bounty hunter, a grave digger with a drinking problem and a prostitute. Their plan is to lure the gang leader into an area called The Big Thicket, a lawless place where anything goes.
As reported by Deadline, production is now taking place in Calgary, Canada, for a release on streaming service Tubi.
The service’s chief content officer, Adam Lewinson, said in a statement: “As Tubi deepens its commitment to a wide range of genres, we are incredibly excited to begin production on The Thicket, which has been a passion project for so many involved.”
This elevated western thriller led by Peter Dinklage and an exceptionally talented team of artists delivers on genre expectations while adding so much more to make the journey into The Thicket unique and mesmerizing.”
“I’m so very excited to bring Joe Lansdale’s riveting story to the screen,” Dinklage added. “A journey into the heart of darkness to find love and return it to its rightful place.”
As well as Dinklage, The Thicket will star Juliette Lewis, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Leslie Grace, Levon Hawke, Esmé Creed-Miles and more.
The Tyrion Lannister actor has been trying to get this adaptation off the ground for almost a decade, and was ready to go in 2020 with a completely different supporting cast, but we all know how 2020 went. (DigitalSpy)
