Gary Neville has backed Michael Carrick to take the reins at Manchester United until the end of the season following Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
Just two days after United were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at Anfield – a result that leaves them 19 points adrift of their rivals – Mourinho was relieved of his duties, bringing to an end a two-and-a-half-year spell in charge.
Carrick hung up his playing boots at the end of last season and immediately took up a position on Mourinho’s coaching staff and Neville has backed his former teammate to steady the ship.
