Germany warns of an escalation of violence on Gaza border (Memo)

The German government yesterday expressed concern regarding the escalation of violence between Palestinian protesters and the Israeli army on the Gaza border.

Government spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said that Germany supports the launching of an independent investigation which can “clarify the violent incidents and the bloody violations at the border area” after 63 Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire and tear gas near the border fence.

“It is clear that everyone has the right to peaceful protest, but it is just as clear that this right to peaceful protest should not be abused in order to provoke violence. And Hamas has been pushing for an escalation of violence,” he said. Read more
