A woman and her 8-year-old daughter (names withheld) have reportedly tested positive to HIV after the woman’s boyfriend, identified simply as Jude Chinedu aka, Ijiegbe, allegedly raped the minor in their house in Delta State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Alegbor Community, Uvwie LGA of the state

Copies of the medical tests showed that the woman and her daughter are infected with the dreaded disease.

Mother who starved son, 3, to death found not guilty due to insanity (Guardian)

A mother who starved her three-year-old son to death by causing him to join her in a religious fast when she was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia has been found not guilty of manslaughter and child cruelty by reason of insanity.

Olabisi Abubakar’s mind was “thrown off balance” by the Covid lockdown and concerns about her immigration status and she began denying herself and her child, Taiwo, food, hoping fasting and prayers would save the world from coronavirus.

When police forced their way into her small flat in Cardiff after a friend raised the alarm, Abubakar, 42, an asylum seeker from Nigeria and a devout Pentecostal Christian, was thin, malnourished and dehydrated while Taiwo’s body was emaciated. He had been dead for some time, weighing only 9.8kg (1st 5lb), and pathologists concluded he had suffered from malnutrition and dehydration. Read more 

Banana Island: NIWA orders suspension of reclamation works (Vanguard)

The National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA has ordered the immediate suspension of all reclamation work around Banana Island where the building collapse occurred recently.

This is as the Federal Government agency also distances itself from the issuance of building permits or issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, C-of-O, faulting accusation by the Lagos State government linking it to the building collapse in a recent news publication.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NIWA, Goerge Moghalu gave the order when he visited the site of the incident and ordered the immediate suspension of all reclamation activities within the area of the incident in the Island pending the conclusion of the investigation ordered by the Lagos State Government. I hit my father’s head with iron rod in his sleep — 18-year-old murder suspect (Tribune)

An 18-year-old Taofeek Adeagbo has been arrested for killing his father by hitting him with an iron rod in his sleep, while his mother, Rashidat Adeagbo, was also arrested for concealing information of the murderous act.

The suspect who was paraded alongside 25 other suspected criminals at the Oyo State Police Command, Ibadan, carried out the heinous act in Tede, Atisbo local government  on the day of Eid Fitri celebration.

The suspect, who according to the Police report had confessed to the crime, hit his father on the head with an iron rod while he was asleep. Read more 

Drug peddler jailed five years in Lagos (Punch)

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State, on Thursday, sentenced a man, Udogwu Johnson, to five years imprisonment for unlawful importation of 300 grams of cocaine.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo handed down the jail term after finding Johnson guilty of the offence preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The convict pleaded guilty to an amended charge filed against him when he was arraigned before the court. Read more

Netflix Inc has increased the number of Asian and women in lead roles, but still lags in representing Latinos, the disabled and women of color, a study by the streaming platform and the University of Southern California (USC) found.

While Hollywood has made strides in diversity in recent years, some communities criticize the lack of progress, both on and off screen.

To understand the lack of representation in the industry, Netflix partnered with USC and founder of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, Dr. Stacy L. Smith, to analyze the inclusion metrics of the streaming service from 2018 to 2021 based on gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+ and disability. Read more

Ukraine war: 19 dead as Russian missiles hit cities (BBC)

A wave of Russian air strikes on cities across Ukraine, including Kyiv, has left at least 19 people dead.

Seventeen people including a child were killed in an attack that hit a block of flats in the central city of Uman, officials said.

Manchester United: Alejandro Garnacho signs new 5-year contract until 2028 (BBC)

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has signed a new five-year contract until the summer of 2028.

The 18-year-old Argentina U20 international joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2020.

He made his senior debut last season and has gone on to score four goals in 31 appearances in all competitions.
