The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has written Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. to furnish it with details on credit cards used by musician, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley. The commission said the cards recovered from the artiste during his arrest were used for alleged identity theft and credit card fraud. According to court documents obtained by The PUNCH, the EFCC’s letters to Visa and Mastercard – titled, ‘Investigation Activities’ – were dated May 13, 2019, three days after it arrested Naira Marley. Eid-el-Fitri: Oyetola provides free train from Lagos (Nation)
For the third time since assumption of office six months ago, Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has provided free train for indigenes and others travelling from Lagos to the state for religious celebration. The free train service for those travelling for the Eid el-Fitri will depart the Iddo Terminus in Lagos on Monday June 3, stopping over in Abeokuta and Ibadan among others, before arriving at the Nelson Mandela Train Park Station in Osogbo at an estimated arrival time of 6pm. On Thursday June 6, the train will make a return trip to Iddo Terminus in Lagos, stopping over in Oyo and Ogun states after taking off at 10am from the Nelson Mandela Train Park Station in Osogbo. Buhari raises alarm over serious security problems in OIC Member States (Guardian)
President Muhammadu Buhari has alerted that many Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states are grappling with serious security problems, including terrorism, violent extremism and armed criminality. The President stated this when he read the collective statement of African countries at the 14th Summit of the OIC in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. In the statement read on Saturday, Buhari said the situation had been compounded by series of political crises in the affected countries. Read more
Buhari hosts Lake Chad Security Summit June 12 (Punch)
President Muhammadu Buhari says he will host leaders of the Lake Chad Basin Commission to an informal Security Summit on the sidelines of his forthcoming Second Term inaugural ceremonies slated for June 12 in Abuja. The president made this known during a bilateral meeting with the Chadian President Idris Deby Itno in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Saturday. The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr Abdullahi Mashi, has urged Nigerians to support the fight against tobacco to avert lung diseases and other tobacco-related conditions in the country. Mashi made the call in Abuja on Saturday at the commemoration of 2019 World No Tabacco Day.This year’s theme is “Tobacco and Lung Health”. The former leader of Angola’s Unita rebel group, Jonas Savimbi, is being reburied 17 years after his death. Thousands of former Unita fighters wearing white T-shirts emblazoned with images of Savimbi attended the ceremony in his home village of Lopitanga. Officials in the US city of Virginia Beach have named the 12 people killed by a gunman who went on a rampage in a municipal building on Friday. Blast at Russian explosives plant injures 42 (Punch)
A blast at a major explosives plant in central Russia Saturday injured 42 people and damaged nearly 200 buildings nearby, said local officials, Russian news agencies reported. The explosion happened at the “Kristall” factory in Dzerzhinsk about 400 kilometres (250 miles) east of Moscow, in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Nanda Devi: Search for eight climbers missing in Himalayas (BBC)
A group of eight climbers has gone missing while climbing India’s second highest mountain.
