Global Citizen, the renowned international advocacy organisation focused on eradicating extreme poverty, has announced Ifeoma Chuks-Adizue as Managing Director for Africa. Based in Lagos, Chuks-Adizue will lead Global Citizen’s strategic initiatives across the continent, with a major focus on Move Afrika—a trailblasing music tour aiming to boost Africa’s economic development through local job creation, entrepreneurship and infrastructure investment.
The new role marks a pivotal move for Global Citizen in expanding its footprint in Africa, aligning with its vision to support economic empowerment and poverty reduction. Chuks-Adizue will manage the organisation’s growing Africa-based team and work closely with partners across various sectors, including business development, marketing, and event production.
Liza Henshaw, President of Global Citizen, praised Chuks-Adizue’s vast leadership experience, highlighting her dedication to African development and her network within diverse industries as crucial for the role. “Ifeoma’s extensive experience, coupled with her commitment to advocating for women and girls across Africa, will be key in advancing our mission,” Henshaw stated.
A core responsibility of Chuks-Adizue will be overseeing Move Afrika, which launched in Kigali, Rwanda in December 2023. The landmark event, “Move Afrika: Rwanda,” brought international stars like Kendrick Lamar, alongside African talents such as Zuchu and Bruce Melodie, in a spectacle hailed as Rwanda’s most successful music event. The initiative, developed by Global Citizen and pgLang, is designed to stimulate local economies, employing over 1,000 Rwandans and focusing on skill-building for the youth. With 75 per cent of the production crew and staff sourced locally, the event set a new benchmark for international music tours in Africa.
As Move Afrika expands into more countries, Chuks-Adizue’s leadership will be instrumental in scaling this vision, which is expected to attract more investors and create thousands of new opportunities across the continent.
Chuks-Adizue’s two decades of experience in brand management, sales and business development will serve her well in this role. Prior to joining Global Citizen, she was Executive Director at Chemical and Allied Products PLC, where she spearheaded impressive growth. She has also held significant positions at Procter & Gamble Nigeria and Cadbury Nigeria.
An accomplished author and passionate advocate for women and girls, Chuks-Adizue founded “The Uncommon Woman Movement,” an initiative empowering career-driven women. She is also a board member at FINCA Microfinance Bank Nigeria, a role that underscores her commitment to financial inclusion and supporting vulnerable populations.
Chuks-Adizue holds a degree in Economics from the University of Jos and has received the “Exceptional Leader of Excellence Award” from the Global Women Economic Forum. Her appointment marks a promising new chapter for Global Citizen’s mission in Africa, as it leverages her expertise to create sustainable economic opportunities and inspire action against poverty.
As Global Citizen gears up for Move Afrika’s anticipated return in the coming year, Chuks-Adizue’s leadership is expected to bring both local and global communities together, fostering a stronger, more prosperous Africa.
