Lagos graduate arraigned for phone theft (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 31-year-old man, Frank Obodom, for alleged theft of a phone worth N720,000 in Alaba International Market, in the Ojo area of the state.
The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate L.Y. Balogun sitting before a Yaba Magistrate Court on one count bordering on phone theft.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Chekwube Okeh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 18, 2023, around 9.42 am at the Alaba market, Ojo, Lagos State. Read more
Lagos tenant sues landlord for damage (Punch)
A Lagos tenant, Emeka Unateze, has sued his landlord, Justin Anyasodo, for forcefully entering and damaging his property in the Ishashi area of Lagos State.
Anyasodo was arraigned by the police before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope sitting before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on four counts of malicious damage to property, forgery, and theft on Tuesday.
The prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, told the court that the defendant committed the offences because he was having a rent dispute with his client, Unateze. Read more
Police launch manhunt for killers of Lagos politician (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command said it had launched a manhunt for the suspected killers of a politician identified as Samsondeen Ali, in the Oworonshoki area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Ali was allegedly killed by two persons at the Precious Seed Community in Oworonshoki on Saturday after an argument ensued between him and the yet-to-be-identified hoodlums, suspected to be land grabbers.
A source in the community who spoke with PUNCH Metro on the condition of anonymity said Ali, who contested the councillorship position in the area, was attempting to erect a fence behind his house to stop illegal passage when he was confronted by the hoodlums. Read more
Strike stalls Chidinma’s trial over alleged murder of Super TV boss (Punch)
The trial of an undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu, the alleged murder suspect of Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, on Tuesday, could not go on, due to the absence of the defendant.
Ojukwu, a 300-level student of the Department of Mass Communication is being tried before a Lagos State High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square, on nine counts of murder, theft, and forgery.
She was arraigned alongside her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and one Adedapo Quadri.
Driver surrenders to police after crushing LAWMA officials to death (Punch)
The driver of the Honda Saloon car with number plate EPE 984 DV that rammed into the Lagos State Waste Management Authority sweepers while they were discharging their duties along Gbagada Expressway on Monday morning has turned himself in to the police.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday.
Hundeyin said the driver would be charged to court on Tuesday for manslaughter. Read more
Court jails Cameroonian, Nigerian for pangolin scales possession (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a Cameroonian, Fofou Dadjo Evariste, and a Nigerian, Babangida Mahmoud, to two years imprisonment for unlawful possession of pangolin scales.
Justice Yelim Bogoro sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the amended charge filed against them by the Nigerian Customs Service.
The convicts were arraigned alongside one Olamilekan Adenekan on five counts which bordered on conspiracy, unlawful possession, trading, warehousing of pangolin scales, and perverting the course of justice. Read more
Street sweeper bags life jail for defiling teenage girl (Punch)
Justice Abiola Sholadoye of the Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday arraigned and sentenced a 32-year-old street sweeper, Damilola Omojolowo, to life imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl.
Omojolowo was convicted on one count of defilement of the girl, whom he claimed was his girlfriend.
The offence committed contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. Read more
Court jails cashier five years for defrauding employer N64.4m (Punch)
The Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced cashier, Tunde Abdulramon, to five years’ imprisonment for his employer’s N64,420,900 to marry a new wife and also for opening the same kind of his employer’s business for his new wife.
Justice Raliat Adebiyi who handed down the sentence also ordered the convict to make restitution by returning all the properties he bought while in his employer’s establishment and also the money that he stole.
The convict was arraigned on August 19, 2013, on 11 counts which bordered on stealing and fraudulent false accounting, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Read more
Diabetic patient arraigned over alleged N26m fraud (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arraigned a diabetic patient, Abdulrahman Raji, before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly defrauding a man of N26m.
The defendant is facing two counts bordering on conspiracy and fraud preferred against him by the anti-graft commission.
The EFCC’s prosecution counsel, E. Isah, told the court that the defendant and one other now at large conspired to commit the offences. Read more
Court remands man for alleged defilement of minor (Punch)
The Ikeja Sexual Offence and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a man, Gabriel Ogbonnaya, at the Nigerian Correctional Service for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.
Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Ogbonnaya after he took his plea.
The defendant is facing two counts of unlawful sexual assault and defilement of a child preferred against him by the Lagos State Government. Read more

A Nigeria Immigration Service officer, Oluwafemi Badiru, on Wednesday, narrated to the Lagos State High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square, how his colleague, Umar Mohammed, allegedly assaulted him while they were on duty.
Badiru told Justice Sherifat Sonaike that after the assault and victimisation their employers, NIS, ordered him to withdraw the case or he would be dismissed.
The witness who was led in evidence by the counsel from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. M. A Olateju and Mr. Alaba Kuku Badiru, told the court that he was on official duty when he was assaulted by Mohammed. Read more
Court jails couple 2 years for drug trafficking (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a husband, Mr Ikechukwu Okafor, and his wife, Ifeyinwa Okafor, to two years imprisonment for unlawfully dealing in 19.12 kilograms of Methamphetamine, a prohibited drug.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo handed down the jail term to the couple who resides at Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos State, after they pleaded guilty to the offence.
The couple were arraigned on five counts of conspiracy, unlawful dealing, and unlawful possession of the banned drug, preferred against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Read more
EFCC arraigns man, firm for alleged $60,334 theft in Lagos (Guardian)
The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, arraigned one Oladipo Jimoh and his firm, Barma Energy Resources Limited on two-count charges for allegedly stealing $60,334.59.
Jimoh was brought before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
After the two-count charges were read to the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, G.C. Akaogu, prayed the court for a trial date to enable the prosecution to prove its case against the defendant. Read more
Fraudster bags 1-year imprisonment for defrauding American $20k (Guardian)
A fraudster Joshua Femi has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for defrauding an American, Sheedy Morgan, the sum of $20,000.
The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) secured the conviction on November 9, 2023.
Femi was jailed by Justice O.O. Abike Fadipe of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on two-count charges bordering on impersonation, obtaining under false pretense and money laundering. Read more
