Guard arrested over missing Lagos doctor’s car (Punch)
A yet-to-be-identified guard has been taken into custody by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command over a vehicle that was stolen on the premises of the estate in the Ago Okota area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered from the vehicle owner, a medical doctor, Kehinde Fadairo, on Tuesday that he had parked the vehicle on the estate premises on Sunday night but woke up on Monday to go to work and discovered that the vehicle was missing.
Fadairo noted that upon realising that his vehicle had gone missing, he raised the alarm and escalated to the estate authorities and the Chief Security Officer who invited the guard who was on duty overnight for inquiry. Read more
Couple, accomplice jailed 18 months for stealing N5m (Punch)
A Yaba Chief Magistrate Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a couple, Warris Matti, 27, and Anifat Matti, 25, and one Adeyemi Olaiya, 32, to 18 months in prison and 200 hours of community service for stealing.
Warris, a sales representative and Olaiya, 32, a supervisor at Hans and Rene, were said to have conspired to steal a total of N5m from their employer.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs A.O. Salawu, who handed down the verdict to the trio after the conclusion of the trials and the facts presented before the court, held that their sentence should begin immediately. Read more
NAFDAC seizes N3.8b unregistered food products in Lagos (Punch)
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has seized unregistered food products valued at over N3.8bn during a raid on a warehouse located in the Apongbon Oke Arin Market of Lagos State.
The operation was led by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, following a tip-off about the sale of unregistered and potentially unsafe food items.
Our correspondent gathered that officials discovered a large stockpile of products that violated regulatory standards, prompting the agency to seize the goods valued at N3,818,802,720, making this one of the agency’s largest single seizures in recent years.Read more
Two remanded for alleged identity theft, $150k fraud (Punch)
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday remanded two men, Elvis Edokpiawe and Kelly Enogieru, in the Ikoyi correctional centre for alleged identity theft and $150,000 fraud.
The defendants who were arraigned before Justice Akintayo Aluko are facing four counts bordering on conspiracy, identity theft, impersonation, obtaining by false pretence and unlawful fund conversion.
Justice Aluko issued the remand order after the two defendants pleaded not guilty to the separate four counts, marked FHC/L/1009c/204 and FHC/L/1010c/204, brought against them by the police. Read more
Ex-convict nabbed with South African-bound drug at Lagos airport (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have thwarted an attempt by an ex-convict, Olanrewaju Akorede, to smuggle a consignment of Rohypnol to South Africa via the export shed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

Woman who assaulted FRSC official not a police officer – Lagos PPRO (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has debunked claims that Monalisa Osayi, arrested for assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps official on December 7, 2024, is a police officer.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.
He stated that Osayi was arrested and prosecuted by the Ajah Division of the Lagos State Police Command for the assault.
Turkey-based Nigerian passenger jailed one year for drug trafficking (Punch)
A Turkey-based Nigerian passenger, Anoke Roomy, was on Thursday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos for attempting to unlawfully export 600 grams of tramadol, a controlled substance.
Justice Akintayo Aluko convicted and sentenced Roomy to 12 months imprisonment following his guilty plea to a charge filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency against him.
However, the court granted him the option to pay a fine of N300,000 instead of serving the prison term. Read more
92 street traders arrested for violating Lagos environmental law (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and task force have arrested 92 miscreants and street traders for allegedly violating the state’s environmental laws.
A statement by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Thursday, revealed that five females and 70 males, suspected to be miscreants and street traders, were among those arrested.
The suspects were primarily arrested in areas such as Ikoyi, Lekki, and Victoria Island.
NAFDAC shuts down illegal cosmetic factory in Lagos (Punch)
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has closed an illegal production facility in the Ipaye area of Iba, Lagos, for manufacturing unregistered cosmetic products.
In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), NAFDAC released videos and images of the operation, showcasing the seized items and the facility’s unhygienic conditions. The agency emphasised that the unregulated products posed a direct threat to public health, especially as they were produced without adhering to safety standards or obtaining the necessary approvals.
The facility was found manufacturing unregistered cosmetic products, posing significant risks to consumers. Read more
CSOs demand appeal of Lagos doctor’s overturned conviction (Punch)
A coalition of child protection and women’s rights organisations has called on the Lagos State Government to appeal the recent Court of Appeal ruling that overturned the conviction of a medical doctor, Dr. Femi Olaleye, for the alleged defilement and sexual assault of a minor.
The Lagos doctor, who heads the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, known for providing free breast and cervical cancer screening for women, was accused of sexually assaulting his wife’s niece for over a year until the abuse was discovered and reported to the police by his wife.
On October 24, 2023, Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court convicted and sentenced Olaleye to life imprisonment for the offence. Read more
Fake visa agent arraigned for N9.8m student scam (Punch)
The police on Tuesday arraigned a 40-year-old fake visa agent, Timothy Atolagbe, before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Iba for allegedly obtaining the sum of N9, 879,928.00, under false pretence of helping his victim to procure a Canadian study visa.
Atolagbe who was arraigned before Magistrate D. S. Odukoya is facing four counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, and forgery preferred against him by the police.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the defendant and others still at large conspired to commit the offences between July 2023 and June 2024. Read more
Eight lawyers arraigned for public nuisance in Lagos (Nation)
The Ilori Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos State has arraigned eight lawyers over allegations of quarrelling and scrambling for clients within the court premises.
The accused, identified as Idowu Okuwanne (41, female), Opara Chinwe (47, female), Moses Akpasubi (51, male), Jolly Ogbuefi (49, male), Adebayo Olowofela (39, male), Kayode Akintau (45, male), Celine Nwosu (41, female), and Olawale Olayinka (59, female), were brought before Magistrate M. I. Tanimola. They face charges of conspiracy and conduct likely to breach public peace, offences under the Lagos State Criminal Laws.
According to the police report, the lawyers allegedly caused a disturbance on December 20, this year, at the Ilori Court premises. The incident was reported to the Pen Cinema Police Division, leading to their arrest and subsequent arraignment. Read more
