Five people are in hospital after a vehicle was driven into a house and police officers were attacked this morning.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested, police confirmed, following the “eerie” scenes in Hainault, northeast London, which unfolded at around 7am. Members of the public and officers were attacked, Metropolitan Police says. Emergency were in attendance in Hainault, east London, for around three hours. Five people have been taken to hospital. Met Police says there have been reports of a stabbing too.

A man was pictured brandishing what appears to be a sword on the street this morning. Police are about to deliver a new statement to the press this afternoon.

Officers had swarmed nearby Hainault Station, forcing it to close amid an ongoing investigation. Transport for London is urging commuters to re-plan their journey and asking them to avoid the area. Labour MP Wes Streeting had earlier confirmed a “critical incident” had been declared. (Mirror)
