Headteacher who defiled 2 pupils jailed for life (Nation)

Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court yesterday, sentenced a headteacher, Benjamin Ogba to life imprisonment for defiling two underaged girls, both seven years.

Justice Soladoye held that the prosecution proved the ingredients of defilement beyond doubt.

Man jailed 1 year for possession of fraudulent documents (Nation)

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Special Offences Court yesterday sentenced one Nonso Ekeocha to one year imprisonment for possessing fraudulent documents.

The charge was brought against him by the Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

The count against the convict stated: “That you Nonso Joseph Ekeocha, on or about the 27th June, 2024 in Lagos, with intent to defraud had in your possession, ‘Instagram Profile Account’ wherein you represented yourself as Ronald Gregory, and other related documents for an online Dating scam, which you knew or ought to know to be false.” Read more 

Prostitute stabs man to death in Lagos (Nation)

A 48-Year-Old man, identified as Okafor, was yesterday reportedly stabbed to death by a prostitute in his residence at Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

According to the police report, Okafor was attacked by a woman identified as Joy Kelvin, about 5:30 a.m. He had brought her home the night before.

The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim during an altercation, leaving him critically injured. Read more

Soldiers injure KAI officials in Lagos (Nation)

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) were yesterday attacked by soldiers for dismantling illegal structures in Yaba.

The soldiers, according to Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, acted under the directives of two officers identified as Major Adebiyi and Captain Gowon.

Lagos task force impounds 82 motorcycles (Nation)

The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its crackdown on the illegal operation of commercial motorcyclists, seizing 82 motorcycles during recent enforcement across various areas of the state.

The operations, which were conducted in Berger, Mile 2 Oke, and Orile, formed part of the government’s efforts to ensure compliance with the ban on motorcycles in restricted areas.

12 jailed for prostitution, disturbance in Lagos (Nation)

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has secured the conviction of 12 commercial sex workers following a dislodgement in Obalende.

The offenders were sentenced to eight months in prison for prostitution and breach of peace.

Corps Marshal of the agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole, announced the convictions at the LAGESC Command Headquarters in Bolade-Oshodi, Lagos, on Monday. Read more

Appeal Court reserves judgment in doctor’s rape conviction appeal (Nation)

Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, seeking to rescind the judgment of a lower court which convicted him of rape.

Olaleye was in October, last year sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for raping his wife’s niece, a teenager, when the defilement happened.

In his judgment, Justice Rahman Oshodi held that the prosecution, the Lagos State Government, had proved the charge against the defendant and the evidence against him was compelling. Read more

Husband stabs newlywed wife to death in Lagos (Nation)

The Police Command in Lagos State has detained a 30-year-old newlywed man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, for allegedly stabbing his 25-year-old wife, Olajumoke, to death.

The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the murder case to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said the incident happened on Friday, about 1:00 p. m., in Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu. Read more

Police command releases detained Lagos protesters on bail (Nation)

The Police Command in Lagos State has released the nine protesters arrested during the #FearlessInOctober demonstrations on Oct. 2 in Lagos.

The protesters were arrested by police operatives at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, in the Ojota area of the state, and detained for alleged breach of public peace.

Man jailed eight years for N62m fraud (Nation)

Justice Ismail Ijelu of an Ikeja High Court, Lagos has sentenced a man, Abodurin Gerald Abozo, to eight years’ imprisonment for land fraud involving N62million.

Justice Ijelu sentenced the convict  after he found him guilty of a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The convict was arraigned on October 15, 2023 on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense and stealing the cash. Read more

Court frees commercial driver accused of killing LASTMA official (Nation)

Justice Oyindamola Ogala of an Ikeja High Court has acquitted a 29-year-old commercial driver, Ibrahim Yusuf, accused of killing an official of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Yusuf was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of attempted murder and harm on an official of LASTMA, Olatunde Awotola.

Delivering judgment in the matter yesterday, Justice Ogala discharged and acquitted the commercial driver charged with the alleged killing of an official of LASTMA. Read more

LASU student loses N.912m to ‘‘one chance’’ robbers (Nation) 

A 200 level student in the Department of Philosophy, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Anita Amarachi Uchola, was at the weekend robbed by a gang of armed robbers widely called “one chance” operating in a commercial bus.

The gang robbed and assaulted her before throwing her off the moving vehicle.

Man jailed 1 year for online romance scam (Punch)

The Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a man Nonso Ekeocha to one year imprisonment for an online romance scam.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe, who handed down the verdict, held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had proved the one count of possession of fraudulent documents Ekeocha used to perpetrate romance scams beyond a reasonable doubt.

Earlier when Ekeocha was arraigned, the EFCC told the court that the convict with intent to defraud had in his possession, an ‘Instagram Profile Account’ wherein he presented himself as Ronald Gregory, and other related documents for an online dating scam, which he knew or ought to know to be false. 28 miscreants terrorising Lagos motorists to face trial (Punch)

The Lagos State Taskforce on Tuesday said it would prosecute the 28 miscreants arrested in some parts of the state for terrorising and extorting motorists.

The agency’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the miscreants are in the habit of extorting motorists whose vehicles break down on the highway under the guise of collecting ‘owo omotaku’, literally meaning “breakdown money.”

He said a raid on areas such as Mile 2, Alaba Rago, FESTAC, Apapa, and the surrounding environments led to the arrest of the miscreants. Read more

Bouncer kills man in Lagos club house (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a club bouncer, Kingsley Otti, for allegedly stabbing a suspected hoodlum to death at a lounge on Ago Palace Way in the Okota area of the state.

The command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Wednesday, stated that the incident occurred on Monday at about 3:30 am.

According to him, Otti attacked the deceased during an altercation between them in the club’s car park. Read more 

Police arrest stepfather, others for defiling wife’s 12-year-old daughter in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a stepfather, Chibuzor Benjamin, along with two others for allegedly defiling his wife’s 12-year-old daughter (name withheld) in the Ago Okota area of the state.

The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Saturday, stating that two other individuals, Emmanuel Okechukwu and Sunday Akpan, were also arrested for allegedly defiling the same minor.

Hundeyin said, “One Ngozi reported the case on behalf of her niece, aged 12 years, against all three suspects of having canal views of the minor. The complainant alleged that the suspects had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of the survivor since August 2024. Read more
