How Arabic teacher allegedly assaulted 9 pupils sexually in Lagos – Nurse (Punch)
A nurse, Oluchi Nwoke-Okoi, on Monday told an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court how an Arabic teacher, Farouk Adam, allegedly fingered his nine Islamic pupils, ages seven to 13 years.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Farouk is facing a nine-count- charge bordering on sexual assault.
Nwoke-Okoi, a registered nurse and midwife, while being led in evidence by the State Prosecutor, Olufunke Adegoke, said she was a staff of Women At Risk Foundation and had 15 years of experience in midwifery.
The witness told the court that she attended to nine survivors and conducted vagina examinations on seven of them after their mothers brought them to the WARIF centre on February 20, 2019. Read more
Black marketers take over as fuel scarcity bites harder in Lagos (DailyTrust)
Fuel scarcity which spread to Lagos, the nation’s commercial capital, over the weekend is now biting harder with motorists spending their night at filling stations.
Reports by our correspondent within Ikeja and its environs indicated that most petrol stations are now shut down, claiming they have run out of stock while only a few were dispensing.
In all the few filling stations, our correspondent observed long queues of between 500 meters to almost one kilometer as motorists scrambled to get fuel.
Those affected included both the commercial and private vehicle owners who lamented spending long hours in the queues. Read more
Crisis hits Supreme Court as judges accuse CJN of corruption (DailyTrust)
In what could be a major blow to the integrity of the judiciary, Justices of the Supreme Court have accused the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), His Lordship, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, of corruption.
Muhammad had stepped into office after Walter Onnoghen, his predecessor, was removed on a controversial note.
Onnoghen was suspended in 2019 after a civil rights group filed a petition against him at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Among the allegations levelled against him was owning some secret foreign accounts, which were run in a manner inconsistent with financial transparency and the code of conduct for public officials. Read more
Tinubu: Lagos Assembly to send commendation letters to Buhari, others (Nation)
The Lagos State parliament has passed a resolution to send commendation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari and others for ensuring a credible presidential primary election that produced the APC candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu.
The House of Assembly directed its Clerk, Mr Lekan Onafeko, to write commendation letters to Southern and Northern APC governors and the Conference of Speakers of State Assemblies and the National Assembly.
The House passed the resolution at the resumption of plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa on Monday. Read more
3m passports collected between 2019-2022 — Aregbesola (Sun)
The Minister of Interior Affairs, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, announced yesterday that a total of three million Passports were issued to Nigerians between 2019 to 2022, just as he warned officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) against extortions and hoarding of the passports to create an undue scarcity in the system.
He disclosed this at the official launching of the Enhanced e-Passport in Benin, Asaba and Warri passport offices and the commissioning of the passport production centre at the Benin Passport office, Edo State command.
“It will interest you to know that between 2019 and now, as difficult as that era, the Nigerian Immigration Service has issued over three million passports to Nigerians. It is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.
“Last year alone, 1.3 million passports were issued. Also, last time I checked, over 250,000 passports remained uncollected by applicants”, he said
The Minister assured that the exploitation of Nigerians seeking to get their passports will no longer be tolerated by him as erring officers will be seriously dealt with. Read more
Oyo police foil bank robbery, arrest 5 (Punch)
The Oyo State Police Command has foiled a bank robbery planned by a criminal gang in connivance with a contract worker of a new generation bank in Ibadan.
A female suspect and four others were also arrested by the police, who foiled the planned attack hatched a day before the hoodlums struck.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday.
Osifeso said the suspects were picked from their hideout around Odo Ona area of Ibadan based on information. Read more
Davido extends tour to Europe (Nation)
Afrobeats singer Davido has announced the continuation of his “We Rise by Lifting Others” tour.
The tour, he said, will move to Europe after holding in North American cities including Brooklyn, Toronto, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles.
The North American tour, which started on June 16, ends on June 25.

FG launches Civil Services bus scheme (Vanguard)
As part of its commitment to ease the movement of civil servants, the federal government, Tuesday, launched a bus scheme at a ceremony presided over by Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan.
The computerized buses numbering 20 in the pilot phase would be deployed along the various routes in the Federal Capital Territory to convey workers to and from their various offices. Read more
Bandits attack intending pilgrims from Sokoto (Tribune)
Bandits have attacked intending pilgrims from Issa Local Government Area of Sokoto State who were on their way to the state capital for their onward journey to Saudi Arabia.
However, the state government confirmed that the intending pilgrims were rescued unscathed.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the state governor, Muhammad Bello, on Monday.
The statement quoted the state Commissioner for Information, Isah Bajini Galadanchi, saying the intending pilgrims, their relatives, and security men who were accompanying them to the hajj camp were held up by the bandits. Read more

Russian forces seize frontline Donbas village: Ukrainian official (AlJazeera)
Russian forces have pushed deeper into eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region, with Ukrainian officials announcing the fall of a front-line village near the strategically important cities of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk.
Roman Vlasenko, head of the Severodonetsk district military administration, said on Tuesday that the settlement of Toshkivka is now “controlled entirely by the Russians”.
Toshkivka had a pre-war population of about 5,000 people and is approximately 25km (15 miles) south of Severodonetsk in eastern Ukraine’s Luhansk region, which has for weeks been targeted by Moscow’s troops as they press for complete control of the Donbas. Read more

Diddy has released his first track in five years, ‘Gotta Move’, featuring Bryson Tiller.

Man slits lover’s throat for rejecting marriage proposal (Vanguard)
Twenty-one-year-old Egyptian woman, Naiyera Ashraf’s throat was slit open in front of the entrance of her university in Egypt by her friend after she rejected his marriage proposal, according to local media reports.
The heinous crime took place at the gate of Egypt’s Mansoura University on Monday, where the victim was violently attacked with a knife.
The man, whose name has not been officially confirmed yet, was arrested, according to the Egyptian Public Prosecution.
People nearby who witnessed the crime handed the suspect to the police, the public prosecution said in a statement. Read more
Maine cannot ban aid to religious schools, top US court rules (AlJazeera)
The US Supreme Court has allowed more public funding of religious entities, ruling in favour of two Christian families who challenged a Maine tuition assistance programme that excluded private schools that promote religion.
In a six-to-three decision the justices overturned on Tuesday a lower court ruling that had rejected the families’ claims of religious discrimination in violation of the US Constitution, including the First Amendment protection of the free exercise of religion.
It was the latest in a series of decisions in recent years expanding religious rights.
The court’s conservative justices were in the majority in the ruling, authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, with its liberal members in dissent. Read more

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has completed the first part of his Bayern Munich medical.
He has been signing autographs in a Bayern top for the first time outside the hospital.
Mane is now expected to check in at the hotel, have lunch, have photographs and sign his contract, Sky reports.

Man Utd hope to sign free agent Eriksen (BBC)
Manchester United hope to persuade Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen to join them before the new season.
It was thought the 30-year-old would prefer to remain in London after making a successful comeback with Brentford in the second half of last season.
The Bees hoped Eriksen would stay on while it was thought Tottenham Hotspur were also keen to re-sign him.
However a deal has not been agreed with either club, giving United the chance to make an offer for the free agent.

Dakkada brightened their hopes of beating the drop after claiming bragging rights in the Ibom Derby with a 3-1 triumph over city rivals, Akwa United, in a match-day 34 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Akwa started the game the better side, with Leo Ezekiel feeling he had grabbed the game’s curtain raiser but his effort was ruled offside.

Arsenal complete Fabio Vieira signing from Porto in £34.2m deal (BBC)
Arsenal have completed the signing of midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto in a 40m euro (£34.2m) deal.
Porto released a statement on 17 June saying the Gunners would pay an initial 35m euros (£29.9m) for the 22-year-old, with the rest in potential add-ons.
Arsenal have now announced Vieira has signed a long-term contract with them.
“I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent,” said Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
“Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.” Read more
Russian Medvedev retains top spot in latest ATP rankings (DailyTrust)
Russian Daniil Medvedev remained top of the ATP rankings released Monday despite his loss in the Halle final over the weekend to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz.
Hurkacz’s victory saw him jump two spots into 10th place while Italian Matteo Berrettini, who won on grass at Queen’s, falls to 11th and Britain’s Cameron Norrie to 12th.
Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic, the losing Queen’s finalist, rose from 48th to 31st.

Inzaghi extends Inter contract until 2024 (France24)
Simone Inzaghi has signed an extension to his contract with Inter Milan which will keep him at the San Siro until 2024, the Serie A club announced on Tuesday.
In a video released by Inter on social media, chairman Steven Zhang said that Inzaghi would stay for “two more years” after extending his current deal with the club by a year.
Italian media report that the 46-year-old has also received a one million euro salary increase to five million euros.
Inter are showing faith in Inzaghi despite the former Lazio and Italy forward failing to retain their Serie A crown, won by local rivals AC Milan after a thrilling title race which went down to the final day of the season. Read more
