Tragedy was averted on Friday when a cement laden truck belonging to Dangote Group lost control and rammed into an eatery in Jos.
The incident, which happened around 9 am in the morning saw the truck, which was descending from the Hill Station junction along the Yakubu Gowon Way, lost control at the popular Polo Junction roundabout going to Zaria road enroute Gada Biu.

Comfort Diya, nine, had begun to struggle in the water in the pool in Spain when dad Gabriel, 52, and brother Praise-Emmanuel, 16, jumped in to help. All three died in the Christmas Eve tragedy at the Club La Costa World resort near Malaga in 2019. Read more
33 African countries in need of external assistance for food- FAO (AfricaNews)
A total of 45 countries and regions worldwide are in need of external assistance for food, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has warned.
The FAO’s latest “Crop Prospects and Food Situation” report, which is published triannually, indicates that due to factors such as regional conflicts and adverse weather conditions, 45 countries and regions worldwide require external food assistance. Among them, 33 are in Africa, nine in Asia, two in Latin America and the Caribbean, and one in Europe. Read more
Injured Boniface close to return, says Leverkusen coach, Alonso (Punch)
Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, said on Friday that Nigeria striker, Victor Boniface, was “close to getting back on the pitch” and could return in March.

Former Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines was among more than a dozen college athletes who filed a lawsuit against the NCAA on Thursday, accusing it of violating their Title IX rights by allowing transgender woman Lia Thomas to compete at the national championships in 2022.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta, details the shock Gaines and other swimmers felt when they learned they would have to share a locker room with Thomas at the championships in Atlanta. It documents a number of races they swam in with Thomas, including the 200-yard final in which Thomas and Gaines tied for fifth but Thomas, not Gaines, was handed the fifth-place trophy.
