In a candid revelation, President Bola Tinubu has confessed that the daunting economic challenges facing Nigeria in his early days in office nearly made him withdraw from the media spotlight.
Speaking during a visit to Katsina State, Tinubu admitted that the barrage of criticism and harsh realities of leadership almost got to him.
“I almost ran away from watching or reading the newspapers,” Tinubu confessed. However, he maintained his resolve, sticking to his decisions and believing that timely decision-making is a hallmark of leadership. Tinubu assured that his administration’s economic decisions are beginning to yield positive results, claiming that “Nigeria is a success, the economy is turning around.”
However, a contrasting view was presented by African Development Bank President, Akinwumi Adesina, who painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s economic standing. Adesina lamented the country’s declining GDP per capita, noting that Nigeria has fallen behind countries like South Korea. He attributed the downturn to inconsistent economic planning and poor implementation by successive governments. (Tribune)
