Security guard arrested one year after stealing N25m bus (Punch)

A security guard, Ali Muhammed, who allegedly stole a bus in the Magodo area of Lagos State in 2017, has been arrested by the police.

The Toyota Hiace, valued at N25m, reportedly belonged to a customer of a company, Autofit Maintenance Centre, where Muhammed worked as a guard.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect had been in the employ of the company for about two years before he allegedly fled with the vehicle. Read more

Man allegedly kills another over N200 (Punch)

A 34-year-old man, Mayowa Olabiyi, was on Wednesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly hacking a man to death over N200.

Olabiyi had appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, on two counts of conspiracy and murder.

His plea was not taken and has been remanded at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos for the next 30 days. Read more

I discovered my husband had two wives, six children after marriage, woman tells court (Punch)

A 28-year-old housewife and mother of one, Mautin Idowu, on Wednesday asked a Badagry Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve her five-years marriage to her husband, Michael, to prevent her from committing suicide.

The petitioner threatened to jump into a river in the coastal city if the court declined to grant her request due to the alleged wayward behaviour of her husband.

Mautin, a teacher in a public school, said that she was tired of her husband’s disrespect for her family, his intolerable behaviour and lack of love. Read more

My husband bewitched me for eight years, wife tells court (Punch)

A housewife, Abosede Bamgbose, 28, on Wednesday pleaded with a Badagry Customary Court in Topo Garage to dissolve her marriage, alleging that she was bewitched by her husband, James, for eight years.

Abosede also told the court that there was no longer love in the marriage, adding that a spell was cast on her to win and sustain her love.

“Sometime in the year 2009, I followed my friend to a wedding party at Ajara Topa, Badagry;  immediately I  saw James, I fell in love with him. Read more

3 LASU lecturers face probe over sexual harassment (Vanguard)

Three lecturers at Lagos State University, LASU, may be sacked over cases of alleged sexual harassment of their students. It was learned, yesterday, that the insitution’s Governing Council had concluded investigations into the matter.

According to a source, the sack of the randy teachers would be announced after the next meeting of the council, slated for next month.

The authoritative source revealed that the lecturers are from the departments of Chemistry and Economics, while the third is from the LASU College of Medicine, LASUCOM, Ikeja. Read more

Cult leader nabbed for killing policeman in Lagos (Guardian)

The leader of a cult gang, Malik Onebiri, a.k.a. Kobad Baron, has been arrested for killing a police sergeant during a protest at Ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos. The police said the suspect was the one who fired the shot that killed Sergeant Collins Esiabor on August 29, 2018.

His arrest brings to 19 suspected cult members so far nabbed for their alleged involvement in the killing of the policeman.Baron and 18 others are being detained at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti Street, Yaba.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, had last week paraded 18 persons, among whom is the head of a masquerade group, Igunnuko and an herbalist arrested in connection with the crime. Read more

Man steals lawyer’s phone in Church (Vanguard)

A 37-year-old man, Ikechukwu Duru, who allegedly stole a phone valued at N48,000 belonging to a lawyer, James Etta, was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, Thursday.

The accused also used the stolen phone to withdraw N263,000 from the victim’s account and then sold the phone.

The defendant is facing a count charge of theft preferred against him by the Police. Read more

Knight poses as Brig-Gen to swindle Lagos bizman of N100m (Vanguard)

A 58-year-old Catholic Knight, who has been masquerading as a Brigadier General to defraud people, has been arrested by detectives attached to the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos.

‘The suspect, Paulson Ogbonna, met his waterloo after he allegedly defrauded a businessman of N100 million, with a promise to help him use his position as a senior Army officer to retrieve N77 million owed the businessman. However, during investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had never been enlisted into the Nigerian Army or Armed Forces. Read more

Policeman arrested for drinking on duty said he seized beer from motorist (Vanguard)

AN Inspector, attached to Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu, Lagos State Police Command, who was arrested for holding a bottle of beer, while on official duty, has said he seized it from a motorist.

It was learned that Inspector, Emmanuel Egba, who was caught on camera with a bottle of beer, belongs to the motorcycle unit attached to Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu.

According to the spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command, CSP Chike Oti, “the Inspector was caught on camera, identified and arrested. Read more

NDLEA arrests Lebanese suspected drug dealer (Vanguard)

A Lebanese Chef, Charbel Chalouhi, suspected of using and dealing in drugs has been arrested by the National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

NDLEA operative Chalouhi, a resident of 18, Wahab Ogunbambo Street, off Simeon Akinlonu Crescent, Victoria Island, was arrested following a tip off from worried residents of the area.

He is being held at the NDLEA’s Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, NAHCO, Lagos Command, Ikeja. Read more

Suspected cultist arrested over killing of Police Sergeant in Lagos (Vanguard)

Suspected leader of the Eiye confraternity who allegedly pulled the trigger that snuffed life out of a Police Sergeant two weeks ago in Ifako Ijaye Ogba area of Lagos, has been arrested.

The suspect, Malik Onebiri popularly known as Kobad Baron, was arrested in Gboko, Benue state, where he took cover after the incident.

Recall that the deceased policeman, Sergeant Collins Eseabor, was allegedly attacked by Onibiri and his members who were protesting the death of one of their own. Read more
