I hear it’s very easy to train kids, you know teenagers to commit murder in cold blood. But there’s a caveat: they may not get away with it.
Step 1: Let them witness your hatred, let them see your anger towards the object of hate; could be their teachers, their neighbours, their friends…name it, anyone you want your children to target, you need to let them know you how much you hate these people , you would murder them yourself!
It’s easy, because like they say, children are sponges, they soak up even what you have no intention of them soaking up. They absorb your hate and it becomes theirs, they take in your vitriol and it becomes theirs, they take in your jealousies and it becomes their jealousy and before you now it, they have murder on their minds!
Step 2: With their little hearts well saturated with hate; now’s the time to show them the weapons you would love to use against your object of hate; the murder weapon could be cutlasses, guns, even, scissors, in short, anything that can do fatal damage is just ok. Let your children know that you could use these to destroy that ‘enemy.’ You know, the one whom you have told them time and time again would make your life easier if they exited this earth.
Step 3: Pull back; enough hate and anger has been sown, now, watch your children in action! They will dazzle you.
Go ask Sunday Adindu and his wife what their current state of mind is since their 14 years old daughter, Favour Adindu, stabbed their 12-year old’s neighbor’s daughter to death!
The hate Sunday planted in Favour finally yielded fruit on 4th of February, 2021; Favour, who had times without number seen her father at war with his neighbors, knew just the right words to elicit meaner responses that would make anyone’s blood boil.
She’s been well school by her daddy, Sunday, who is reported to be such a quarrelsome neighbor, he was accused of being responsible for his children’s bad behavior. Some of his neighbours contend that, he had sown enough bile in his daughter and so she was emboldened to carry out her father’s wishes when she got into an argument with Adanne Opara, the daughter of one of her father’s ‘enemies.’
Favour decided to make daddy proud, she went swiftly for a knife and plunged it into Adanne’s heart, killing her on the spot!
What would possess a 14-year-old girl to pick up a knife to stab another child?
What sort of anger, what sort of argument, what sort of deranged emotion quickened her to seek a knife to end the argument that wasn’t going her way?
Many kids her age would fall back if they know their parents would first whip them silly upon finding out they even fought with another neighbours’ kid.
As a girl my father would have whipped me silly me if he came was home and was told I had a fight with someone.
Before he even finds out what actually happened, he would have swiped my face with one hot slap; upon hearing me, he would apologise and tell me, he doesn’t want me fighting with anyone…so what emboldened Favour?
‘Daddy would be happy.’ “Mummy will support me no matter what?’
But maybe I am isolating a few other occurrences or incidents that could justify this murder; I hope I am, for the sake of this 14 year old child.
Pause to think about it; a 14year old child!
She killed a 12-year-old… not some man who attempted to rape her, not some robber who invaded her home, not some ‘bandits’ who attempted to kidnap her. She murdered another child in cold blood!
No parent would want to imagine their 14 year old daughter out in the street at night, what parent want to think of her in prison for murder?
And yet, Adanne Opara, the 12-year-old victim lies stone cold in the mortuary as police investigate the matter!
Like journalists like to say, 14-year-old Favour is “cooling her heels in the police cell.”
Yes, it is still being investigated but nothing changes the fact that Favour picked up a knife and ended Adanne’s life. It still remains an incontrovertible fact!
Witnesses were reported to have accused Favour’s father of being the most troublesome man in the compound they shared with several other neighbours. Sunday Adindu is reported to have beaten a fellow neighbour’s wife over an argument at one time and he was said to have fought another neighbour over what many neighbours fight about.
He was even reported to have quarreled several times with Adanne’s father in that same compound. His children witnessed it, they heard him swear and brag about the nasty things he would do to his neigbours and so, for Favour, picking up a knife to attack another child wasn’t something that paralyzed her with fear, it was something she’d heard too often it was almost as if she’d done it several times over.
I hear someone say, Sunday couldn’t have encouraged Favour to go kill their neighbour’s daughter, maybe Sunday needs to understand that with children, our actions, rather than our words are what they listen to and emulate.
I can’t accurately gauge Sunday Adindu’s state of mind right now but I can guess that he is a very unhappy man. With a murder rap hanging on his 14year old’s daughter’s neck, peace and sleep will not come easy…for a long time to come.
