An Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Tuesday heard how a 17-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, Lagos (names withheld) was allegedly gang-raped by eight fellow students who also blackmailed her with a video recording of the assault. Five of the students, Moboluwaji Omowole, 19, Chuka Chukwu, 19, Peace Nwankama, 19, James Aguedu, 20 and Osemeka Josephine, 20 were arraigned on a three-count charge of defilement of a child, permitting the defilement of a child in a premises and procuration before Justice Abiola Soladoye. The students, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, have been remanded in Kirikiri prisons by the trial judge while others were said to be still at large. Read more
PDP asks INEC to halt collation of presidential election results (Guardian)
Nigeria’s opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to discontinue the announcement of the presidential election results. “The PDP demands the immediate discontinuation of the announcement until data from the use of card readers are made available,” Kabiru Turaki, deputy director-general of the PDP presidential campaign organisation said on Tuesday evening. Twenty-eight states have so far been announced by INEC at the national collation centre in Abuja. Read more

Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the outright cancellation of the presidential election results from Yobe, Zamfara, Nasaraw and Borno State. “we demand the immediate and outright cancellation of Presidential election results in Yobe, Zamfara, Nasarawa and Borno states as submitted by INEC presiding officers and ask for the conduct of fresh elections in these states,” deputy director general of PDP Presidential Campaign Organization Tanimu Turaki said in a statement. “We have evidence from the smart card reader accreditation data that what is being announced by INEC has been seriously tampered with and manipulated.” Read more
Observers hail INEC, security agencies in Kano (Nation)
International and local observers in the just- concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in Kano have hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring free, peaceful and violent free elections in the state. In a joint-press conference at Bristol Hotel on Tuesday, the South African-based Pan African Women Project and Nigerian-based Center for Intervention, all expressed satisfaction at the way INEC and security agencies performed their duties during the election. Spokesperson of Pan African Women Project, Belinda Maduna, said: “Elections began at the scheduled time, with unbelievable turnout, notwithstanding earlier postponement of the polls by INEC.” Read more
Donald Trump in Vietnam for summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (BBC)
US President Donald Trump has arrived in Vietnam ahead of his second summit with North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un. Air Force One landed at Hanoi’s Noi Bai airport hours after Mr Kim reached the Vietnamese capital by train and car. The summit, which is due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, follows a historic first round of talks in Singapore last year. The two leaders are expected to discuss progress towards ridding the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons. Read more
Policeman, 28 others killed in latest Kajuru attacks (Punch)
The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the attack on Maro and some villages in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas of the state. The state Police Commissioner, Ahmad Abdurrahman, confirmed that 29 persons, including a policeman, were killed during the attack while scores were injured. The Police chief made this known at a press conference Tuesday evening. Gunmen on Tuesday attacked Maro village in Kajuru Local Government Area and part of Kachia, in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Read more
10 illegal miners die after mine collapse in Mozambique (Punch)
Ten illegal miners have died after the mine they were in collapsed in Mozambique’s northern Cabo Delgado province, an official said on Tuesday. The collapse occurred on Monday near a concession in Montepuez owned by British mining firm Gemfields. Fifteen people are believed to have been in the mine when it collapsed, said Ramiro Guizare, the provincial Director of Mineral Resources and Energy. Guizare added that two people have been rescued. Rescue efforts are still underway, he said. Read more

Theresa May has promised MPs a vote on delaying the UK’s departure from the EU or ruling out a no-deal Brexit, if they reject her deal next month. Mrs May made a statement to MPs about Brexit on Tuesday, amid the threat of a revolt by Remain-supporting ministers. The PM has promised MPs a meaningful vote on her Brexit deal by 12 March. Leicester appoint Rodgers as manager (BBC)
Brendan Rodgers has been appointed Leicester City’s new manager after leaving his job at Celtic. The Northern Irishman has signed a contract until June 2022 and succeeds Claude Puel, who was sacked on Sunday after 16 months in charge. It marks a Premier League return for Rodgers, who previously managed Liverpool and Swansea City. “I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club,” Rodgers said. Deontay Wilder laid the blame for his rematch with Tyson Fury falling through at the feet of his British rival. The WBC announced on Tuesday Fury had opted out of the second fight with Wilder, and would instead aim to rematch the heavyweight champion at the end of the year. A six year-old girl had to beg her babysitter to ask her pedophile husband to stop kissing her. The unnamed girl asked day care center provider Joy Lopez to request that Lopez’s husband Edgar Noe Lopez-Monter, 46, leave her alone. Lopez-Monter, jailed for 14 years Friday, was reported by the girl in August 2017 amid claims he had been molesting her and her nine year-old sister at the home day care in Roseville, Minnesota.
