One Tijjani Ahmadu Fiye, a 35-year-old resident of Bauchi metropolis, has mercilessly beaten his wife after stealing their television to raise money for investment in his shop.

Police detectives attached to โ€˜Aโ€™ Division Bauchi rushed the victim to hospital in a last-ditch effort to save her life.

LEADERSHIP learnt that Mr Diye, who veiled his face with a gag, hard-hit the wife with a pestle on the head. He pretended as though armed robbers invaded their apartment.

After being subjected to police interrogation, Mr Diye confessed to the offence. โ€œI intended to neutralise her,โ€ he emphasised.

Spokesperson of Bauchi Police command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who confirmed the incident to reporters in a statement over the weekend, said the suspect will be charged to court at the end of policeโ€™ discreet investigation to face consequences of his action.

โ€œThe suspect raised a false alarm that armed robbers entered their house. He quickly entered the bedroom, met his wife and asked her to cover her head with a scarf. He moved out of the room, covered his face with a scarf, armed himself with a pestle, came back to the bedroom, and started hitting her with the pestle.

โ€œThe suspect further confessed that he intended to neutralise her and take their television and sell it in order to raise money to furnish his shop,โ€ he said. (Leadership)
