The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) orientation exercise has resumed in Borno 12 years after its suspension due to insecurity.
NYSC State Coordinator, Mohammed Adamu Jiya, said the return of the youth service to the state after over a decade of security challenge caused by Boko Haram insurgency, was a relief. He said the Borno orientation camp was relocated to northwest Katsina State in 2012.

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of 10 suspects attempting to steal crude from the sea in Lagos.
The commander of the NNS Beecroft, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, who spoke to journalists on Monday, stated that the suspected vandals were intercepted with tools meant to breach the pipelines and siphon fuel.
Personnel of the Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft, reportedly averted the theft at a single buoy mooring operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Read more

Pupils under the EKOEXCEL programme, a Lagos State Government initiative aimed at improving primary school education have achieved outstanding success at the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination.
The highest performing EKOEXCEL pupil scored 199, just 4 points lower than the best performing pupil nationally who scored 203. Over half of other tracked EKOEXCEL pupils who took the exam scored 70% or above.
The top three EKOEXCEL pupils, all girls, Ololade Ganiyat of St. Mary’s Convent Primary School, Ugwu Victoria of Enitan Primary School and Chima Mesomachukwu from Community Nursery & Primary School, Ijeododo achieved exceptional scores of 199, 191 and 185 respectively. Read more

As the month of August remains unforgettable following the painful death of Dr Vwaere Diaso, a medical doctor who passed away at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, after an elevator she took crashed from the tenth floor, it was alleged that the non-availability of blood at the general hospital contributed to her death, which the Founder Haima Health Initiative, Bukola Bolarinwa, lamented that poor blood donation remains a tragedy across the country.
Bolarinwa asserted, “This avoidable loss raises extreme concerns over the state of Nigeria’s medical emergency response, even within the hospital premises.

Man accused of killing brother’s children remanded for 60 days (DailyTrust)
A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has remanded a 37-year-old man, Taiwo Ishola, for killing his younger brother’s two children.
The defendant, with no fixed address, is facing a one-count charge of murder.

African Union suspends Niger over military coup (France24)
The African Union said Tuesday it had suspended Niger until civilian rule in the country is restored and would assess the implications of any armed intervention in the troubled Sahel nation.

Army commandos in Pakistan are attempting to reach six children and two teachers trapped in a chairlift hanging 274 metres (900 ft) above a ravine after a cable snapped, with the helicopter rescue mission being hampered by high winds, officials said.
The children, who have been stranded since 7am local time (0200 BST), were using the chairlift to get to school in a mountainous area in Battagram, about 125 miles north of Islamabad.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced earlier this summer it would keep its promise to block news content from Canada on its platforms because of a new law that requires tech giants to pay publishers for linking to or otherwise repurposing their content online.

The National Basketball Association’s New York Knicks sued rivals the Toronto Raptors in Manhattan on Monday, accusing the Raptors’ new coaching staff of hiring a “mole” who gave the team their scouting reports and other confidential material.
The Knicks accused their former video, analytics and player-development assistant Ikechukwu Azotam, who left the team last week, of stealing thousands of proprietary files and forwarding them to the Raptors.
