The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has noted that the appointment or sack of service chiefs is a “Presidential prerogative” which only he can exercise in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The President made this known via a terse July 21, 2020 statement signed by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
This was sequel to a resolution adopted by the Senate calling on the “Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked due to the multi-pronged security challenges in the country.”
The statement noted that the “Presidency notes the resolution, and reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.”
