The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has warned police officers in the country against rights violations, and other misconduct.

โ€œNo operative should be seen carrying assault arms (rifles) while dressed in civilian attire (mufti),โ€ the IGP said in a virtual meeting with police managers on Monday, according to a statement by Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi.

The IGP said he has received various complaints regarding rights violations through the Forceโ€™s complaint channels. He warned that any conduct violating human rights wonโ€™t be tolerated and would be met with severe consequences.

โ€œThe IGP also warned all tactical squads against the misuse of power and improper dressing, emphasizing the importance of operating in approved uniforms,โ€ the statement partly read.

โ€œAll tactical squads are to ensure compliance with the standard operating procedure, while properly dressed in the assigned uniform for the particular squad.

โ€œThe IGP further emphasised on the indiscriminate transfer of cases without the written approval of the IGP. This conduct is highly prohibited and would no longer be tolerated, as such exposes the parties to unnecessary burdens and delayed justice in their cases.โ€ (Channels)
