Court refuses to stop Fayemi from dissolving councils (Nation)
An Ekiti State High Court on Friday refused to grant an order to restrain the governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from dissolving the 16 local government councils. The council chairmen acting under the aegis of the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has approached the court seeking an interlocutory injunction to stop Fayemi from sacking them. Dismissing the application, Justice Abiodun Adesodun, described as unmeritorious, pre-emptive and speculative. Read more

South Africa’s Tutu back home after two weeks in hospital (Guardian)
South African anti-apartheid icon Desmond Tutu, 87, has returned home after a two-week stay in hospital, his office said Friday, adding he was “re-gathering his strength”. The retired archbishop, who celebrated his birthday last Sunday, has had several stays in hospital in recent years and is in long-term treatment for prostate cancer. The Zimbabwean government says it is concerned about the number of people still presenting with cholera signs and symptoms, in spite a vaccination programme against the diarrhea disease that started last week. Court jails man for theft of cell phone (Nation)
A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday, sentenced a 29- year-old man, Brown Donatus to six months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone valued N20,000. Donatus, a resident of Mpape village, Abuja, pleaded guilty to two-count charge of stealing and trespass brought against him. The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment and warned him to desist from committing crime in the future. Read more
Abandoned baby found opposite Anambra church (Nation)
An abandoned year-old baby boy has been reportedly found opposite Holy Trinity House Adazi -Nnukwu, Aniocha local government area of Anambra State. A statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, on Thursday in Awka, said the baby, allegedly dumped in a bush, was recovered around 4pm by the vigilante in the area.
