A female football team based in Imo State, Imo Angels, has congratulated the newly elected president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau.
The PUNCH reported that Gusau, on Friday, emerged the 40th President of the NFF at the 78th Elective Congress in Benin, the Edo State capital.
He polled 21 votes to defeat his closet challenger, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, who got 12 votes.
The second runner-up, erstwhile League Management Committee Chairman, Shehu Dikko, garnered six votes.
Imo Angels, in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday, celebrated with the NFF on its successful election of new leaders.
Gusau elected new NFF President
In the statement titled, ‘Imo Angels Felicitates With New Nff Leadership’, the the Chief Executive Office of the female team, Jenny Anusiem, expressed optimism about the new leadership.
The team also pledged its support for the NFF and tasked the national body on “global best practice”
The statement read, “The Board, Management, players and fans of Owerri based female Football side, Imo Angels FC, celebrates with the new Leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation.
“Football in Nigeria, especially Female football, is fast evolving and we’re optimistic that this new leadership will steer towards global best practice.
“On our part, we’re committed to supporting the NFF to make history together. Congratulations.”
