The Aina family announces the commencement of funeral rites for the late Mrs. Tinuola Aina, a revered figure whose impactful life touched many hearts. Mrs. Aina, born Tinuola Aduke on April 29, 1933, embarked on her final journey on November 7, 2023.
The two-day farewell ceremonies will commence with a heartfelt Service of Songs at 5 pm on Thursday, December 7, in Lagos, followed by a private interment on Friday, December 8.
Born into the esteemed family of Mr. Samuel Ayodele Soyinka and Mrs. Grace Eniola Soyinka in Ake Vicarage, Abeokuta, Mrs. Aina’s early years were shaped by a disciplined and deeply Christian upbringing. Fondly known as “Tinu” within the family, she enjoyed a joyous childhood alongside her siblings, including the renowned figures Wole and Femi Soyinka.
Her educational journey began at St Peter’s Primary School in the Vicarage and later continued at Abeokuta Grammar School (AGS), Igbein. Driven by a passion for nursing, she ventured to England, earning her SRN, SEN, and Queens Nurse qualifications at South Shield. Returning to Nigeria in 1959, she contributed significantly to the medical field, initially at the Psychiatrist Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
Married to Dr. Kola Aina in 1963, Mrs. T.A. Aina’s commitment to healthcare extended to her role at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where she served as the Principal of the Nursing and Midwifery School until her retirement in 1993.
Post-retirement, Mrs. Aina continued to impact her community. She initiated an Advisory Clinic at The Christ King’s Church, offering free healthcare to all, regardless of faith or creed. Despite her own health challenges in recent times, she remained dedicated to the clinic until earlier this year.
Beyond her contributions to healthcare, Mrs. Aina embraced new interests, including adire and beading. She became a mentor, advocating for education, financial independence for girls, and supporting local children through primary school and vocational training.
As the matriarch of the Soyinka and Kuti families, Mrs. Tinuola Aina leaves behind a rich legacy of care, love, and devotion. Her influence reverberates through the lives she touched, and her memory will forever be cherished.
In celebrating the life of Mrs. Tinuola Aina, the family requests privacy during this time of mourning and reflection.
