Lagos teacher breaks pupil’s arm while flogging him over test (Punch)

A teacher at CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos, Mr Ikena Ekwenam, has been arrested by the police for inflicting injuries on his 10-year-old pupil, David Uwakwe.

Ekwenam, who teaches Agricultural Science at the school, beat up the Junior Secondary School 2 pupil for allegedly failing to come early for a make-up test.

Sunday PUNCH learnt that the teacher on Friday, November 22, went to Uwakwe’s class and told him he could not find his script on the continuous assessment earlier conducted, asking him to come for a make-up. Read more

Dermatologists offer free skin care to Lagos community (Nation)

Over 300 residents in Makoko area of Lagos have benefited from the free skin care test and consultation organised by Vaseline Healing Project and Direct Relief and Unilever held at the Aiyetoro Health Care Service, Makoko.

The event tagged Dermatology Clinic Outreach to Makoko Community started in the early hours of last Saturday as women and children thronged the health centre after a two-day training organised for 270 public healthcare workers in Lagos State on dermatology treatment at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the convener of the event, Dr. Akinkugbe Ayesha, said that the outreach was part of our wiliness as dermatologists to educate and support people, especially in rural communities, on how to take care of their skin and avoid the use of steroid as it complicates issues on the skins. Local hunters arrest two kidnappers in Osun (DailyTrust)

The local hunters in Odo-Ijesa community in Osun State on Saturday arrested two suspected kidnappers after a hot chase to rescue two people abducted in the community. The hunter said nine kidnappers invaded the community and abducted three persons but one of the victims escaped from them while they took away two persons. The commander of the Hunters Group of Nigeria (HGN), Osun Command, Chief Nureni Ahmed confirmed the arrest of the kidnappers. Read more

Man chains, drags daughter for being absent from school (Punch)

The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended a 56-year-old man, Dahiru Inusa, for allegedly chaining and dragging his 15- years-old daughter on the street in Lafia, the state capital.

Parading the suspect at the headquarters of the NSCDC on Friday, the corps commandant, Mr Muhammad Mahmoud-Fari, said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday at Bukan-Sidi area of Lafia.

The NSCDC boss explained that the suspect claimed the daughter had become wayward and refused to go to school, adding that his action was to tame her. Read more

The restriction of the operation of commercial tricycles by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) within the Federal Capital City (FCC) has generated concern among residents as commuters lament inadequate palliative measures by the government. Standard gauge: We are impressed with pace of work, says NASS (Nation)

Court jails bank manager over unauthorised loans (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday sentenced a 56-year-old man, Adekunle Oyeobu, to two and a half years in prison for issuing loans to three customers without obtaining appropriate authorisation.

The convict, who was a bank manager at the Aba branch of the now defunct Cooperative Development Bank, was said to have issued N34.6m to three customers. Read more

Chelsea slipped to their third Premier League defeat in four matches on Saturday as Everton bounced back from their Merseyside derby humiliation to win 3-1 and escape from the relegation zone.

Goals early in each half from Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the home side 2-0 up and although Mateo Kovacic pulled one back, Calvert-Lewin struck again late to seal the win.

The three points for Everton, under the temporary charge of Duncan Ferguson following the sacking of Marco Silva, lifts them to the relative comfort of 14th spot in the table.

Kepa Arrizabalaga’s blunder ensured Everton got a 3-1 win in the first matchweek 16 game at Goodison Park and fans of Chelsea football club are absolutely livid.

25 years old Kepa joined the London side last year and has made some horrible blunders in that time that left fans and critics questioning the price he was brought in for.

Duncan Ferguson said it will be an “incredibly proud moment” for him when he takes charge of Everton for their Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday.
