Internet fraudsters, who duped Kaduna students of over N60m arrested (Vanguard)
Police operatives in Kaduna have burst an Internet fraud syndicate that duped Kaduna State University (KASU) students of about N60 million.
The police arrested the syndicate of three internet fraudsters who were notorious for defrauding unsuspecting students at KASU of their tuition fees.
The arrested suspects were Muhammad Uthman Busari of Nariya Kaduna, AbdulAzeez Hamza of Hayin Dan-mani Kaduna, and Noel Nims Audiya, who were mainly cyber cafe operators that compromised the students’ registration portal and took undue advantage of students who chose to pay their fees online rather than via the normal banking platforms. A non-governmental organisation that champions the fight against cancer in Africa, Move Against Cancer Africa (MACA), has expressed readiness to collaborate with NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre (NLCC) in Lagos, on advocacy and improved care for cancer patients.
An official of MACA, Caleb Egwuenu, stated this when he led some members of the organisation on a courtesy visit to the NLCC on Tuesday in Lagos.
The MACA team was received by the Centre Director, Dr. Lilian Ekpo, and was given a tour of the facility by other officials who guided them through the various units of the Centre. Read more
Explosion kills 5 at Imo oil bunkering site (Channels)
Five persons have been killed in an oil-producing community of Obitti in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State following an explosion that occurred at an illegal bunkering site in the area.
Confirming the incident to Channels Television, the spokesman for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said the unfortunate incident happened due to the illegal activities of oil thieves at a place called Obitti Rubber Estate popularly known for nefarious activities of oil vandals.
According to him, five vandals were killed, a fuel tanker burnt down and several properties and farmlands destroyed. Read more

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has promised to begin the publication of flights delayed or cancelled by local airlines next week.
“Every week, we will start publishing the list of flights that were delayed or cancelled and the reasons and action taken. We will start publishing them next week. We will name and shame erring airlines,” the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said when he featured as a guest on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

Saviour bags life imprisonment in Lagos for defiling wife’s 14-year-old niece (Guardian)
Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced a man identified as Richard Saviour to life imprisonment for defiling his wife’s 14-year-old niece.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) in a statement on Wednesday revealed that Saviour even infected the teenager with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The DSVA further said that the convict’s name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State. Read more
12 suspects in Gombe police net for various criminal offences (Tribune)
Gombe State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects for the offences of criminal conspiracy, trespass, theft and receiving stolen properties.
The suspects arrested are: David Garba, 23 years old of Lapan ward in Shongom LGA, Isah Mamuda and Ahmed Mamuda 28 years all of Nassarawo ward in Kaltungo LGA.
Other suspects arrested are: Samaila Francis aged 25, Salmanu Jibril aged 20, Daniel Danladi aged 20, Jessy Jackson aged 18 and Ezekiel Kadiri aged 17, as well as Abdulrahman Hassan, aged 18, all of Kaltungo LGA, Ali Rabiu aged 22 of Billiri LGA, Sirajo Abdullahi aged 18 of Kumo, Akko LGA while Sadique Hassan Dokoro is still at large. Kim and Deborah Clenney were booked into the Travis County Jail in Texas on Tuesday. The parents are each charged with unauthorised access to a computer, a third-degree felony in the state of Florida, according to the arrest warrant obtained by NBC News.
Investigators discovered a group chat between Kim Clenney, Deborah Clenney, and their daughter’s attorneys after receiving warrants to access the iCloud accounts of the family. The group sent multiple text messages discussing how to access a laptop that belonged to Obumseli. Read more

On Wednesday, the executives testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee amid a torrent of anger from parents and lawmakers that companies are not doing enough to thwart online dangers for children, such as blocking sexual predators and preventing teen suicide.
“They’re responsible for many of the dangers our children face online,” US Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, who chairs the committee, said in opening remarks. “Their design choices, their failures to adequately invest in trust and safety, their constant pursuit of engagement and profit over basic safety have all put our kids and grandkids at risk.” Read more

The corruption trial of former International Biathlon Union (IBU) chief Anders Besseberg has begun, with allegations that he accepted improper gifts during his tenure as the sport’s global leader.
