Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is “making things worse” in Gaza and has “gone beyond self-defence” with its renewed military action, the UK environment secretary says as the government steps up pressure on Israel.
Speaking to Breakfast presenter Wilfred Frost, Steve Reed says the UK can “no longer tolerate” Israel’s actions in the enclave and that the threat of widespread famine for Palestinians due to aid blockades is “unacceptable”.
“We think the situation now is intolerable,” he says. “This has gone beyond just self-defence on the part of Israel. This is an attack that we can no longer tolerate.”
As a reminder, the UK yesterday suspended trade talks with Israel and summoned the Israeli ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, to the Foreign Office over its “indefensible and cruel” aid blockade. (Skynews)
