The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Wednesday finally admitted to errors which affected the performance of students during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede admitted to this during an ongoing press briefing in Abuja.

Japa: 30% Lagos workers sent on training abroad abscond (Leadership)
The Lagos State government has revealed that 30 per cent of its civil servants sent abroad for training have failed to return to Nigeria.
Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday in Lagos to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
Ayantayo, who was responding to questions from journalists, said the State government’s goal of building a better workforce through international training has been affected by the growing ‘Japa syndrome’—a slang term used to describe the increasing number of Nigerians leaving the country for better opportunities abroad. Taraba tops fatalities as Nigeria records 138 Lassa fever deaths in 15 states (Guardian)
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that Taraba State currently leads in fatalities from Lassa fever in 2025, with 34 reported deaths out of 138 recorded nationwide.
This was contained in the latest situation report published by the NCDC on Wednesday, covering cases from January 1 to May 4, 2025.
According to the agency, a total of 717 confirmed cases of Lassa fever have been recorded from 4,881 suspected cases across 93 local government areas in 18 states. Read more
IPOB: Court admits Gulak’s death certificate in evidence against Nnamdi Kanu (Vanguard)
A federal High Court sitting in Abuja has admitted in evidence, a medical report and the death certificate of a former presidential aide, Mr. Ahmed Gulak.
The prosecution had alleged that Gulak, who served ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was murdered in Imo state on May 30, 2021, after Kanu, in a broadcast, ordered his followers to deal with anyone violating his sit-at-home directive.
Trial Justice James Omotoso admitted his death certificate in evidence after it was tendered through the witness. Read more

The Arewa Youth Assembly has protested against calls for President Bola Tinubu to suspend Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, over corruption claim.
AYA Speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, in a statement yesterday, described the Arewa United Patriots, as “unregistered and faceless group” sponsored by the opposition to tarnish the image of Akume.

PENGASSAN General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Okugbawa, told The Nation that the union is pleased with the recent drop in petrol prices, attributing the development to a combination of supportive economic policies and a boost in supply from both domestic and private refineries.

Senator representing Edo North in the Nigerian Senate, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, has claimed that the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, inherited a badly mismanaged economy from the past administration.
Oshiomhole, who is also a former governor of Edo State, explained that Tinubu had planned to turn things around for Nigeria’s economy in 24 months upon assumption of office in May, 2023.

A couple have been killed in a “freak” Mother’s Day car accident in Australia, according to reports.
On Sunday, May 11 at approximately 6:20 pm local time, Western Australia Police Force officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section responded to the incident, which occurred on Forrest Highway, south of Pinjarra Road, in South Yunderup, per a release.
Police said a white MG sedan had been “parked in the south-bound emergency lane,” before “a male and female exited the vehicle,” without naming those involved. Read more

In Tuesday’s cross examination of Kaja Sokola, one of the three accusers in the trial against Harvey Weinstein, the former mogul’s defense team sought to use a journal she had kept in 2015 against her.
The appearance of the journal, which Sokola said was related to treatment she had undergone for alcohol abuse and which was brought forward by her sister from Poland after a subpoena was issued against her, led to Sokola calling its unveiling “very inappropriate” and “unethical.”

Amber Heard has announced the arrival of twins in an Instagram post shared on Mother’s Day in the United States.
The American actor revealed that she had welcomed daughter Agnes and son Ocean and was “elated beyond words” to celebrate the “completion” of her family.
Heard, 39, welcomed her first daughter, Oonagh, in 2021.

The United Nations has called for calm as fighting has resumed in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, a day after authorities declared order had been restored.
The UN Mission to Libya (UNSMIL) warned on Wednesday that the situation in the country could “spiral out of control”.
“UNSMIL reiterates its calls for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in all areas, allowing safe corridors for the evacuation of civilians trapped in intense conflict zones,” the mission wrote on X. Read more

Brandon Sklenar (Drop) is set to topline F.A.S.T., a long-gestating action thriller that mega TV producer Taylor Sheridan has scripted for Warner Bros.
In the film, a former special forces commando is tapped by the DEA to lead a black op strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers.
The project reunites Sklenar and Sheridan following their work on 1923, a Western drama for Paramount+ that’s part of the latter’s Yellowstone universe. Also a veteran of that series is cinematographer Ben Richardson, who will make his feature directorial debut on F.A.S.T. Read more
11 artists join Field Day boycott over KKR ownership in solidarity with Palestine (NME)
More than 10 artists have joined the boycott of Field Day out of solidarity with Palestine.
It comes just weeks after reports emerged that more than 50 artists – including Massive Attack and Brian Eno – signed an open letter to the festival urging it to distance itself from global investment firm KKR.
This is because it is the parent company of Superstruct Entertainment, which includes stakes in weapons manufacturing companies, the Coastal GasLink pipeline, and multiple Israeli corporations that operate in occupied Palestinian territories (via MixMag).
“We are a coalition of artists… who come together to stand against Israel’s genocide in Gaza and to stand for all rights of the Palestinian people under international law,” explained the open letter. Read more
Nigeria to face Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan in CHAN 2025 group stage (Guardian)
Nigeria will compete in Group D of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled to hold from August 2 to 30, 2025, after the final qualifying slots were secured by Algeria and South Africa.
The Nigerian team, silver-medallists in 2018, will face Senegal, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan in the group stage. The group was reshuffled following the disqualification of Congo Brazzaville after Equatorial Guinea lodged a protest.

In a significant development for the sporting landscape, Nigeria is set to host the World Athletics Africa Road Running Conference, with the National Sports Commission (NSC) announcing the establishment of its Organising Committee.

Wardley was scheduled to face Jarrell Miller in his hometown of Ipswich, at Portman Road stadium. Miller was forced to withdraw just four weeks out of the contest with a shoulder injury and the search for a replacement began. Miller, of course, had been scheduled to face Joshua before Ruiz replaced him six years ago.

FIA reveal significant update to controversial rule change (RN365)
The FIA has confirmed it has made changes to a controversial rule in the International Sporting Code (ISC).
A fresh addition to the rules this year granted the governing body the power to hand drivers heavy fines, race bans or a loss of championship points if found guilty of violating the regulations.
Drivers could be handed such punishments if they inflicted “moral injury or loss to the FIA, its bodies, its members or its executive officers” or carried out any “misconduct”. Read more
