Joe Cole praised Maurizio Sarri for having the ‘bravery’ to axe Kepa Arrizabalaga from his starting XI for Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
Kepa refused to be substituted as Chelsea’s Carabao Cup final headed for penalties at the weekend and, following the defeat, the Spaniard was fined a week’s wages for defying Sarri’s orders.
While both Kepa and Sarri have played down the incident as a ‘misunderstanding’, the goalkeeper was dropped on Wednesday night and replaced by Willy Caballero at Stamford Bridge.
Caballero was barely tested, after finishing with a clean sheet, the Argentinian praised Kepa’s response to being axed, insisting Chelsea’s number one will ‘learn’ from the embarrassing episode. Read more
