Jose Mourinho has defended Sergio Ramos’ elbow on Lionel Messi by claiming the Real Madrid captain was only trying to raise the ‘temperature’ of the derby against Barcelona.
Ramos and Messi clashed in the first half at the Santiago Bernabeu after Madrid’s centre-back caught Barca’s talisman with an elbow.
Messi reacted angrily to Ramos and squared up to the Madrid captain before he was retrained by his Barcelona teammates.
But Mourinho believes Ramos’ intentions were to liven up his Madrid teammates who were beaten following Ivan Rakitic’s goal in the 26th minute. Read more
