The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, (SSANIP), YABATECH Chapter has expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the Federal Government salary payment platform, handled its members’ June salaries.
Mr Kayode Jason,Chairman, YABATECH SSANIP , expressed the dissatisfaction in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said the payment of double salaries to most of the college members and staff of other educational institutions was questionable.
Jason added that the payment of the double salaries and subsequent deduction of extra payments by IPPIS was like a trap to inflict economic hardship on its members.
The association’s chairman said some members’ salaries were over-deducted, causing initial difficulty for affected members to coping with hike in transportation fares, payment of loans and meeting other commitments
“It is worthy of note that IPPIS never came out to take responsibility for their action, leaving everyone in dilemma and asking questions with no answers all because there was no official letter from the constituted agency to address the issue.
“The reversal process was messed up by IPPIS as deductions were made on members’ legitimate balance and led to some of our members temporarily losing their June 2023 salaries due to bank over deduction, though later reversed.
“You can imagine the trauma our members went through in the cause of this irregularity, if all IPPIS can deliver to workers is injury to our members who are only striving to endure the harsh economic environment due to removal of fuel subsidy, then we call for its scrap,” Jason said. (NAN)
