Kaffy, Pinkidebbie hail Ude for attempting dance world record
Kafayat Shafau-Ameh a.k.a. Kaffy, who broke the world record for Longest Dance Party at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006 and Debbie Odumewu (Pinkidebbie), who holds the world record for the Longest Dance Marathon by an Individual, have been to Maryland Mall to support Bright Michael Ude, who is attempting to surpass the latter’s record. While Pinkidebbie was there in the afternoon of March 14, the day Ude crossed the 116-hour threshold, Kaffy came by the night before. March 16 marked his sixth day on the project. Is the new Lagos land use charge justified? (Punch)
My position is not different from that of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers. We can’t say whether it is justified or not. Is government justified in making tax laws and other policies? Yes, it is and that is one of the things we have engaged officials in government to do by electing them into offices. The other side is the timing and the fairness of the policy (Land Use Charge Law). How does it resonate with the people looking at the prevailing (economic) condition? Lagos govt still interested in National Theatre – Ayorinde (Punch)
Even as four of the six theatres being built by the Lagos State Government are due to be ready before the end of 2018, the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Arts, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, has said that the Akinwunmi Ambode administration is still interested in the National Theatre. According to him, although the new theatres being built by the government will go a long way in boosting the drama and cinema experiences of Lagosians, everyone still owes the National Theatre the best it can get. Measles: Lagos takes step towards Elimination (ThisDay)
Children are dying needlessly from vaccine preventable diseases namely measles, tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis and yellow fever because parents and caregiver are uninformed about the importance of this very simple act of immunisation to the health status of their children. It is sad to note that half of these deaths occurred in sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria accounts for a significant proportion of these preventable childhood deaths. Measles is one of the six childhood killer diseases that can be prevented through complete and effective vaccination. The symptoms and signs of measles infection include fever, running nose, sneezing, skin rashes that start from the head and spreads to other parts of the body, ulcers in the mouth, etc. Complications of Measles infection include swelling of the brain tissue (encephalitis), ear infection, chest infections, blindness and even death. Igbo group endorses Ambode for second term (Punch)
A group under the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Igbo Vision, has endorsed the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, for a second term in office. Addressing journalists at a briefing, the group said apart from the performance of the governor in improving the infrastructure of the city, his handling of the state’s economy was another major reason why they were supporting him. A member of the group and Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said Ambode would further transform the state to a mega city if given another chance. Read more
LASG extends graduates training to six months (Punch)
The Lagos State Government says it will extend the duration of its Graduate Internship Programme to six months this year. It explained that such would enable the participants to expand their practical knowledge and increase their chances of employment. The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, stated this during a ‘Breakfast Roundtable Meeting on Graduate Internship Programme’ with stakeholders in collaboration with Employment Clinic International. Threat to life: Police advise Lagos magistrate to relocate (Punch)
The police have advised a Lagos magistrate, Mr. Mukaila Fadeyi, to relocate to another part of the state over alleged threat to his life. It was gathered that the magistrate made a report at a police station about how some suspected hoodlums on motorcycles tailed his car on his way from court sometime last year. The hoodlums were said to have been noticed loitering around the court premises earlier in the day, apparently waiting for the magistrate to close from work. Read more
Falana, Keyamo seek probe of pupil killed by policemen (Punch)
Two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Femi Falana and Festus Keyamo, have called for detailed investigations into the death of a 16-year-old pupil, Emmanuel Chukwu, who was allegedly shot dead by policemen at the Ijora Badia Police Station. While Keyamo requested that a test be carried out to verify the police’s denial of the shooting, Falana promised that his chambers would take up the matter pro bono to get justice for the victim’s parents. Lagos trains top officials (Nation)
Lagos State Government has held training for top officials including the permanent secretaries to meet the challenges of the 21st century through the ‘Change Mindset Advocacy programme.’ The training, aimed at cultivating in public servants, the right culture and mind-set needed to attain the smart city status of the state. Speaking on Tuesday at the training programme organised for permanent secretaries, heads of agencies and parastatals in the state, Commissioner for Information and Strategy Kehinde Bamigbetan, said the government had since realised the importance of changing the mind-set of public servants to align with the ever changing time. Ilupeju residents lament blackout (Nation)
It has been 23 days of hell for residents of Obanlearo Street and Coker Road in Ilupeju, Lagos, who have been coping without electricity since one of their transformers exploded on February 23. Their efforts to remedy the situation, they said, had so far failed as the Ikeja Electric (IE) told them that the transformer ‘’is irretrievably damaged’’. The electricity distribution company, they added, has yet to do anything about the other transformer, which it said, ‘’is rectifiable’’. Some residents said they had suffered losses because of the blackout, others stated that the situation had compounded their health condition. Read more
Residents panic as hoodlums kill UNILAG worker, undergraduate (Punch)
Residents of Abule Ijesha community, Yaba, Lagos State, say the neighbourhood is not safe until the police arrest hoodlums who killed a senior member of staff of the University of Lagos, Akoka, and a final year student of the institution. They claimed that the mastermind of the crime was a drug dealer known to the police and demanded that he and his accomplices be apprehended and prosecuted. Read more

The Festac Fitness Walk 2018 took place on the 10th of March 2018 in Festac Town, Lagos and sure it was a hit. Nurses, midwives lose suit against Lagos (Punch)
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has dismissed a suit seeking a declaration that nurses and midwives under the aegis of Association of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Nigeria are not subject to the Health Sector Reform Law of Lagos State 2006. Justice Raliat Adebiyi in a judgment on March 2, 2018 dismissed the plaintiffs’ suit for lacking in merit. The judge held that contrary to the plaintiffs’ contention, they were subject to enabling law in whichever state they practise, notwithstanding the enabling Act of their profession. Read more

Rapper Olamide Adedeji a.ka. ‘Baddo,’ on Thursday, announced the launch of his Television Channel, `Voice of The Streets (VOTS)’. The launch date incidentally is the Science student crooner’s birthday and he described the station as “a birthday gift to myself.’’ He further dedicated the station to his family, especially his late mother who passed away recently, his son and his record label YBNL. Pandemonium in Lagos, As Olusosun dumpsite fire engulfs Vicinity (Leadership)
There was pandemonium in Lagos State yesterday as the fire that erupted from Olulosun dumpsite in thelate hours of the day left Lagos residents, commuters jittery, as thick smokes from the fire engulfed the vicinity for several hours. Leadership observed that thick smoke billowed from the scene of the dumpsite as motorists, passers at the Ojota, Ketu and Alausa environs ran helter-skelter, wondering what could have been responsible for the massive inferno that threatened to spread beyond the dumpsite.
