Last week was amazing, first off we started the week with the MTN Digital Content Conference. For two days (November 6-7, 2018), content creators had the opportunity to learn from experts, share ideas and get rewarded for the fantastic content they have created. Here are a couple of things we learnt.
Collaboration is essential; content creators in this part of the world still have some way to go in this regard. “We need to work together more to create breathtaking content,” says film director and one of the conference panellists, Tope Alake. According to the superstar film director, the power of collaborative effort cannot be underestimated. He was so passionate when he shared this nugget with content creator attendees that we just had to agree with him.
“It is very important that you have an identity because the creative industry is very competitive,” says ace actor, film producer and director, Kunle Afolayan. For him, content creators need to create content that sets them apart from the crowd. We agree with you, sir!
Filmmakers can never go wrong when they marry cultural values with production values. We noticed a trend at the conference that key panellists, Tope Alake and Kunle Afolayan dressed Nigerian, as they always do in the movies they make. For us, this is their own way of promoting our cultural values and if you want to win as a content creator, you need to have a healthy cultural mix.
Content Creation Pays: During the award ceremony on the second day of the conference, one of the content creators on the MTN Shortz platform carted home cash prizes worth more than N7 million. How did he do it? By simply creating interesting and engaging content on the right platform and voila, he is now a millionaire.
Content Creators know how to have fun. We had a lot of fun at this year’s conference and next year promises to be even more action-packed. Till then, keep creating amazing content as you keep (we hope!) smiling to the bank.
