The Police have yet to react to the development.

School bus driver gets life sentence for defiling 3-year-old pupil (DailyTrust)
A school bus driver, Michael Mowete, was on Tuesday sentenced to life in prison for defiling a three-year-old girl.
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court held that the prosecution discharged the burden of proof against Mowete and hence convicted him.
Oshodi, in his judgment, said, “The convict’s allegation of having an amorous relationship with the mother of the victim in her shop does not hold water.
‘’One of the defence witnesses, the school bus assistant, told the court that the convict was always in the bus whenever they dropped off the minor at her mother’s shop.” Read more
Sexual harassment on the increase in primary, secondary schools – ICPC (Nation)
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Dr. Musa Aliyu has lamented rise in incidents of sexual harassment in primary and secondary schools across the country.
Aliyu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), noted that until there are heavy consequences against offenders, the menace would continue to be on the increase.
He said a major way to decisively address the situation was through “a consistent, persistent, focused, and united campaign.” Read more
Lagos to reintroduce monthly environmental sanitation (Tribune)
In bid to address the state’s environmental challenges, the Lagos State government has announced the reintroduction of its monthly environmental sanitation program, effective July 13.
The programme, which was discontinued in 2016, aims to promote a cleaner and healthier environment in the state.
According to Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the decision to revive the programme was approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the State Executive Council. Read more

The Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has suspended the Chairman of Machina local government council of the state Idrissa Bukar-Machina four weeks after he was elected and sworn in alongside other sixteen council chairmen.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday when Tinubu inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms at the presidential villa in Abuja.

BUA truck kills 5, injure 6 in Anambra road auto crash (Tribune)
On Tuesday, five people lost their lives and six were injured in a multiple motor vehicle accident along Agulu-Agwubu Road in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the crash, which occurred around 9:55 a.m., involved a commercial Howo truck, a commercial TVS or tricycle with registration number NZH84LG, a commercial Qlink motorcycle with registration number OLU245QV, and a private Honda or motorcycle.
According to an eyewitness, the truck driver was approaching a checkpoint at a high speed when he suddenly lost control following a brake failure. Read more

An Israeli general has condemned the government’s decision to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank and criticised rising levels of settler violence in the region, according to Israeli media reports.
Major General Yehuda Fox, the outgoing head of Israel’s central command, said at a departure ceremony on Monday that Israeli settlers have engaged in “nationalist crime” through violence in the occupied West Bank, which he said has “sowed chaos and fear in Palestinian residents who did not pose any threat.”
“This is not Judaism in my eyes. At least not the one I grew up with in my father and mother’s house. This is not the way of the Torah. It is adopting the ways of the enemy,” Fox said. Read more

New York prosecutors planning to retry Harvey Weinstein after his 2020 rape conviction was recently overturned said Tuesday that they are investigating additional allegations of sexual assault and could present new charges to a grand jury by the fall.
At a court hearing in Manhattan, Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg said her office could be ready for a November retrial, countering Weinstein’s defense lawyer, Arthur Aidala, who said his client is in fragile health and “is begging us to move forward” with a sooner trial date.
“He is a sick man and he wants to get out,” Aidala said of Weinstein, 72, “and the prosecution is putting on motions about protective orders and it is delay, delay, delay.” Read more

The Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza has become the main functional medical facility in the northern half of the Palestinian enclave as Israel’s military deepened its offensive on Gaza City and forced the closure of many hospitals and clinics in the area.
Dozens of patients were being treated at the hospital after the main medical facility in Gaza City was closed, hospital director Marawan al-Sultan said on Tuesday.

FTC bans anonymous ‘NGL’ messaging app for users younger than 18 (UPI)
The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday banned the anonymous messaging app “NGL: ask me anything” from letting underage users on the platform in order to settle a lawsuit contending it was unfairly marketed to consumers, which in turn further intensified cyberbullying.
“NGL marketed its app to kids and teens despite knowing that it was exposing them to cyberbullying and harassment,” FTC Chair Lina M. Khan said.
As part of the agreement, NGL Labs LLC and its two co-founders, Raj Vir and Joao Figueiredo, will also pay a $5 million settlement and will be banned from offering the app to anyone under age 18, according to an FTC news release on Tuesday. Read more
