Michael Ikuedowoni, 25, lost his life after his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, allegedly stabbed him following a dispute over infidelity.
The tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Okitipupa Local Council of Ondo State when the lady allegedly used a pair of scissors on Michael during a heated argument in their shared apartment.
According to sources, the two lovers had been engaged in heated arguments over trust issues that ultimately led to the fatal altercation. Read more
Doctors’ strike paralyses services at LASUTH, others (Nation)
Medical services at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, were yesterday disrupted, as doctors began strike over unresolved salary deductions and welfare issues.
The Nation observed that the usually bustling medical facility was deserted, with many wards and consulting rooms under lock and key. No patients were seen around the hospital premises, and workers not directly affected by the strike carried on with minimal activities.
A visit to LASUTH showed that doctors stayed away from duty posts, leaving patients stranded. At the maternity and laboratory wings, many patients, who had scheduled appointments, were forced to return home due to the absence of medical personnel. Read more

SEC rejects tourist company’s AGM over internal crisis (Channels)
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said it does not recognise the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Tourist Company of Nigeria (TCN) Plc, held on July 25, 2025.
It also rejected resolutions passed at the meeting.
A Monday statement published on its website titled “Corporate Governance Crises in the Tourist Company of Nigeria (TCN) Plc,” noted that the meeting was convened by the majority shareholders despite being suspended by the Commission. Read more
FG to boost milk production (Leadership)
The federal government has restated its commitment to advancing dairy development in Nigeria, which is part of the efforts to enhance local milk production and reduce imports.
The minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar, made this known during a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) led by its country director, Xavier Muron, and representatives of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Mukhtar noted that the government’s dairy development programme would be driven by the private sector and anchored on the Nigeria Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NL-GAS), which serves as the Ministry’s operational roadmap. Read more
87 Lagos farmers get N11.4m agric grant (Punch)
Farmers in Lagos State, numbering 87, on Monday, received a total of N11.4m agricultural grant under the Lagos chapter of the Renewed Hope Initiative 2025 Agricultural Support Programme of the Federal Government.
While 27 out of the 87 were in the youth and women category with a grant of N200,000 each with farming inputs to enhance their productivity, 60 others were selected from the senatorial districts of the state, with each beneficiary receiving N100,000 under the Every Home A Garden 2.0.
The beneficiaries involved individuals in various agricultural products such as fisheries, vegetables, garri processing, poultry, beekeeping, and zobo drink processors. Read more
FG raises bank reporting threshold to N25m for individuals, N100m for firms (Sun)
The Federal Government has directed banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria to begin reporting all monthly transactions that exceed ₦25 million for individuals and ₦100 million for corporate entities to the tax authorities.
The directive, contained in the newly amended provisions of the Nigerian Tax Act, mandates financial institutions to submit detailed quarterly returns to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The agency will, however, be rebranded as the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) beginning January 2026, when the new tax system comes into effect.
Quoting directly from the Act, it states:
“Every person who has an obligation to deduct and remit tax under this Act or any other returns for tax legislation shall render monthly returns to the appropriate tax authority, as specified deduction of tax in the regulation issued for that purpose.” Read more

North Korea says US must accept its status as a nuclear weapons state (AlJazeera)
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s influential sister has called on the United States to accept North Korea’s “irreversible” status as a nuclear weapons state, warning that dialogue will never lead to its denuclearisation.
In a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday, Kim Yo Jong said a recognition that Pyongyang’s capabilities and the geopolitical environment had “radically changed” should be a prerequisite for “everything in the future”.
“Any attempt to deny the position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state, which was established along with the existence of a powerful nuclear deterrent and fixed by the supreme law reflecting the unanimous will of all the DPRK people, will be thoroughly rejected,” Kim said, using the acronym of North Korea’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
