Lady who jumped into lagoon, DSS staff member -Report (Punch)
The woman who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Thursday has been identified as Adetutu Adedokun, a staff member of the Department of State Services.
According to Channels Television, sources in the office revealed that Adedokun was said to be an unarmed combat instructor. It was also said that she recently got engaged.
Meanwhile the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement on Thursday said the driver of the taxi claimed she was having a heated conversation with her fiancé before alighting from the car and jumping into the lagoon.
Oke-Osanyintolu, in a fresh confirmation on Friday, claimed that the search and rescue team was still on the water trying to locate the body. Read more

Applicants stranded at police recruitment (Guardian)
Hundreds of applicants seeking admission into the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil in Kano state are stranded at the ongoing physical and credentials screening for the ninth regular course intakes.
Affected young applicants who were invited by the police across the 36 states and Federal capital territory, Abuja for the recruitment processes in Kano have faulted what they considered irregularities in the process.
While some of them lamented the outright omission of their names on the certified list after invitation, others worried over alleged lopsidedness among those certified for the next stage of the recruitment.
Especially, applicants wondered why their names were replaced after scoring above the benchmark of 60 points in the Computer Based Test (CBT) with those that scored less, calling for immediate investigation. Read more
14 years after, FG completes installation of airfield lighting at Lagos Airport (DailyTrust)
Relief has finally come the way of airline operators in Nigeria as the domestic runway which was shut down in May for the installation of airfield lighting (AFL) has been reopened.
This followed the completion of the installation on the 2.7-kilometre 18L/ 36R runway which was re-commissioned in 2008 after refurbishment and rehabilitation.
Since 2008, operators had used the runway without the AFL which allows aircraft to take off and land at night while arriving flights had been landing at the international runway anytime from sunset after which the aircraft would taxi to the domestic terminal.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had shut down the runway on July 7, 2022 for 90 days to install the equipment comprising approach lights, Runway Lights (Threshold and Centre, edge light and others so that it can return to full 24/7 operations. Read more

Enugu: Dismissed policeman among POS robbers set ablaze (Punch)
The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that a dismissed policeman was one of the two suspected Point Of Sales robbers, who were set ablaze in the state on Wednesday.
This comes after reports that one of the suspected POS robbers who was recently set ablaze by a mob along Bissala Road, Independence Layout in the state was a serving policeman in New Haven Police Division, a claim which the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, denied.
In a statement made available, on Friday, November 11, 2022, to our correspondent by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the CP described the report as untrue.
The command said available records only revealed that one of them, identified as Ogbobe Benjamin, has long been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force as a Police Constable, for acts of indiscipline. Read more
2 abducted clerics regain freedom, wounded (Vanguard)
The kidnapped Pastor Nuhu Bakwa and his friend have regained their freedom after the payment of ransom to their abductors.
The duo were released at about the same time and at the same spot where they were abducted at Mararaba Jema’a area of Jos South local government area of Plateau State.
Recall that the two Pastors were travelling from Mangu Halle to Jos when they were ambushed and abducted at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
One of the victims, Pastor Nuhu Bakwa who resides in Abuja lost his aged father in their village, Farin Kasa, Mangu Halle in the Mangu local government area of the State on Tuesday and he travelled with his family and his friend who is also a cleric to the village to prepare for the burial. Police, Amotekun beef security at Ondo INEC office (Nation)
Security has been beefed up around the Ondo secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akure, the state capital.
The increased presence of security personnel around the INEC office in Akure followed the attack on INEC offices in Ogun and Osun States.
Ondo State Police spokesman, Fumilayo Odunlami, said anybody with suspicious movement around the INEC office would be arrested.
Odunlami said more men have been deployed to the Ondo INEC office. Read more

Pedophile serving life gets another 129 years for filming his depraved child rapes (NYPost)
A notorious pedophile already serving life in prison in the Philippines has been sentenced to another 129 years — for filming himself raping impoverished kids, including a baby and a girl found buried under his home.
Jailed Australian Peter Gerard Scully, 59, was sentenced this month alongside his Filipina girlfriend, Lovely Margallo, who got 126 years, according to Philippine News Agency.
Two others who helped them got nine years each.
Prosecutors detailed how Scully moved to the Philippines in 2011 to escape fraud charges in his home country — then started filming himself raping children to sell to sickos online. Read more
Mirror Concert Tragedy: Hong Kong Police make arrests (Variety)
Hong Kong police made a series of arrests early on Friday morning in connection with the severe injuries that happened in July when a large LED screen fell on to the stage where local Canto-pop group Mirror was performing.
Media sources in Hong Kong said that police raided the homes of several people from 6:30 a.m. local time and arrested five – four men and one woman. All five are believed to be connected to Engineering Impact or its subcontractor Hip Hing Loong Stage Engineering.
According to the South China Morning Post, they are being detained on charges of fraud or causing an object to fall from height.
The incident occurred on July 28 at the Hong Kong Coliseum concert venue in front of 20,000 fans. Read more

Hilary Duff has branded an unofficial memoir about Aaron Carter’s life a “money grab”.
Carter’s death was confirmed on November 5 after Los Angeles police officers found his body at his home in Lancaster, California.
The family of the 34-year-old star, who was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, are now investigating the cause of his death.

Russia claims all soldiers gone from Kherson amid Ukraine counteroffensive (Global)
The Russian Defence Ministry said Friday that it finished pulling out its troops from the western bank of the river that divide’s Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, including the only provincial capital that Moscow had captured since invading the neighboring country.
In a statement carried by Russian state news agencies, the ministry said the withdrawal was completed at 5 a.m. on Friday, and not a single unit of military equipment was left behind. The retreat nonetheless marks another huge setback for Russia in its 8 1/2-month war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin remained defiant Friday, insisting the development in no way represented an embarrassment for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moscow continues to view the entire Kherson region as part of Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. Read more

NPFL sets N10m benchmark on insurance policy for players (Sun)
Management of the Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL) has set a benchmark of 10 million naira for insurance claims from policies covering players of the 20 Premier League clubs, beginning from the 2022/2023 league season.
In a letter dated 10th November, 2022 and signed by the Head of Operations, Prince Davidson Owumi, the clubs in the top flight were informed that the minimum claim from an insurance policy in the case of death or permanent disability of an employee, required by the NPFL from clubs is ten million naira (N10, 000,000.00) only.
The NPFL further insisted that such a policy must be acquired from a reputable insurance company and domiciled with the NPFL as required by the club licensing regulations.
In a similar development the circular also notified the clubs that it is mandatory that they hand over a signed copy of a player’s contract to the player and his agent, in accordance with section 9.49 and 12.12 of the NPFL framework and rules, and CAF club licensing document. Read more

It is only in the last couple of years that online abuse amongst the F1 community has stemmed into a massively concerning problem, with hundreds targeted daily purely for stating their opinion or demonstrating their support for a driver or team.
This online abuse has begun to transfer into abuse at the circuits themselves, with Hamilton and Verstappen having been faced with boos and jeers multiple times this season.

Iga Swiatek joins Rafael Nadal in headlining United Cup (TennisWorld)
World No 1 Iga Swiatek has joined Rafael Nadal in headlining the inaugural edition of the United Cup. The United, a mixed-team event, will kick off the 2023 season in Australia. The United Cup will feature 18 nations – divided into six groups of three.
Each tie will feature two men’s matches, two women’s matches, as well as one mixed doubles match. The cities of Brisbane, Perth and Sydney will each host two groups, with the three winners progressing to the Final Four in Sydney.
The next team with the best performance from the group stage will also progress to the Final Four. The inaugural United Cup will be taking place for 11 days, between December 29-January 8.
