Lagos bishop raped me twice –Female pastor (Punch)
A 23-year-old student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko in Akure Ondo State, (names withheld) on Tuesday, narrated to an Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court how she was allegedly raped by the founder of her church, Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, of I Reign Christian Family Church.
The witness, who is a former assistant pastor of the church’s branch in Akungba, Akure, told the court presided over by Justice Ramon Oshodi that her first encounter with the bishop was on May 28, 2018, when he visted Akure for a programme.
The rape victim, who was led in examination-in-chief by the Lagos State prosecution counsel, Babajide Boye, testified that subsequently, she became a member of the church and when her pastor, Toyosi Bamishe, needed to hand over to Pastor Boluwatife Oladejo, she was made the assistant pastor. 7 feared dead after drinking tea at wedding in Kano (DailyTrust)
Seven people have been feared killed and several others hospitalised after drinking a tea suspected to have been made with a local leaf known as Zakami at a wedding ceremony in Kano.
Zakami contains a psychoactive substance.
Eye witnesses’ accounts said it affected nearly 50 people and that some were still missing. The incident happened in Sheka area of Kumbotso Local Government of Kano metropolis.
One of the witnesses, Sanusi Yahaya, who is also an elder brother of the bride, said the tea was suspected to be made with different types of drugs apart from the local leaf. Read more
Truck crushes US returnee to death in Lagos (Punch)
A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man on Friday, May 5, met his untimely death after he was crushed by a moving truck along the Isheri-Igando Road in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the accident occurred around 7pm when the deceased victim just returned from a trip.
An eyewitness, who did not want his name in print for fear of victimisation, said he was trying to cross the road at the Diamond Estate area of the community after purchasing some items when the incident happened. Read more
Sudan crisis: NiDCOM confirms return of 1,730 evacuees on 9 flights (Sun)
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) said 1,730 Nigerians have returned from Sudan, with the latest flight from Port Sudan with 146 evacuees aboard Tarco Airline.
Head, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NiDCOM, Mr Abdur-Rahman Balogun, yesterday, said the flight landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Anuja, at 10:05am.
NiDCOM, on its official Twitter handle, on Monday, said 129 nationals, also aboard Tarco Airline, landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 9:25am. Read more
Buhari to stay additional week in London ‘on dentist’s instruction’ (Vanguard)
President Muhammadu Buhari has added an additional week to his stay in London over an appointment with his dentist.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
Recall Buhari travelled to the United Kingdom last week for the coronation of King Charles 111.

PEPC: Atiku, PDP want live broadcast of proceedings, cite national concern (Guardian)
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 poll, Atiku Abubakar, has appealed to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) to permit live broadcast of day-to-day proceedings.
Atiku and the PDP, in an application brought by lead counsel, Chris Uche, yesterday, specifically prayed for “an order, directing the court’s registry and parties on modalities for admission of media practitioners and their equipment into the courtroom.”
The application, which was dated and filed May 5, predicated, among other grounds, that “the matter before the honourable court is a dispute over outcome of the presidential election, held on February 25, 2023; a matter of national concern and public interest, involving citizens and voters in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, who voted and participated in the said election, and the international community, as regards the workings of Nigeria’s electoral process.” Read more

The zoning crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC, has taken a new turn with stakeholders singing discordant tunes as the various zones make fresh demands on the party hierarchy.
The APC National Working Committee, NWC, on Monday, zoned the Senate Presidency of the forthcoming 10th National Assembly to the South-South; and the Speakership of the House of Representatives to the North-West. The party also zoned the Deputy Senate Presidency to the North-West, and Deputy Speakership to the South-East.
Specifically, the party adopted the zoning template and candidates of its President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and settled for Senators Godswill Akpabio/ Barau Jubrin for Senate leadership; and Messrs Abass Tajudeen/Ben Kalu for House of Representatives leadership. Read more
Jury finds Trump sexually abused writer in NY store (BBC)
A jury in a civil case has found former President Donald Trump sexually abused a magazine columnist in a New York department store in the 1990s.
But Mr Trump was found not liable for raping E Jean Carroll in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman.
The jury also found Mr Trump liable for defamation for calling the writer’s accusations “a Hoax and a lie”.
It is the first time Mr Trump has been found legally responsible for a sexual assault. Read more

Tom Hanks is “against” reading a censored book.
Hanks, 66, touched on cancel culture while promoting his upcoming novel, “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.” The “Forrest Gump” actor is not on board with someone else deciding what he should deem offensive.
“I’m of the opinion that we’re all grown-ups here. Let’s have faith in our own sensibilities as opposed to having somebody decide what we may or may not be offended by,” Hanks told NBC News. “Let me decide what I am offended by and what I’m not offended by. Gospel singer and songwriter, Perez Musik, won two awards at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
He won the Songwriter of the Year and Best Male Vocal Performance awards with his hit song ‘Hewale Lala’.
In the songwriter category he beat off competition from Piesie Esther, Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Ewura Abena, and Fameye.

Deadly shooting near Africa’s oldest synagogue (BBC)
Two visitors and two security guards have been killed in a gun attack near Africa’s oldest synagogue, on the Tunisian island of Djerba.
The attack took place during an annual pilgrimage to the island, which attracts Jewish visitors from Europe and Israel.
A guard reportedly shot dead his partner before opening fire on visitors and security forces near the synagogue before being killed himself.

Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade was brought to tears as her Spanish club, Atletico Madrid Femenina, orchestrated a heartwarming reunion between the forward and her mother, Ajoke, in celebration of Mother’s Day.

IMC monitoring ‘high risk NPFL fixtures’ for match fixing (DailyTrust)
The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has said it is closely monitoring the last round of matches to be played this weekend, especially fixtures involving clubs that are battling against relegation.
The IMC said its Security Intelligence Unit was already monitoring activities of some of the officials whose clubs are involved in matches the league organisers described as ‘high risk matches.’
Head of Operations at the IMC, Davidson Owumi who spoke during an internal review session reiterated that part of plans in place to achieve a season that ends on a high is the setting up of an intensive monitoring team that would be at all the venues. Read more

Jorge Messi, the father of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel, has denied his son has agreed a world record £522m contract to join Al-Hilal.
Reports circulated on Tuesday morning that Messi had verbally agreed a contract with the Saudi Arabian club, which would see him become the best-paid player in world football once more.
