Lagos CP deploys mobile policemen in correctional centres (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has deployed additional mobile policemen in the correctional centres in the state.
This was disclosed after he received the new Controller of Correctional Service, Lagos, Comp Francis Adebisi, and his entourage, at the Police Command headquarters, Ikeja the state capital.
A brief detail of the meeting was shared on Twitter by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday. Read more
Ex-LASUTH director Oke appointed UNILAG medical college provost (Punch)
A former Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching hospital, has been appointed as the Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
His appointment was announced in a statement by the school management on Wednesday.
The statement read, “Professor of Internal Medicine, David Adewale Anthonio Oke, has been appointed as the Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
“The tenure of his appointment shall be for the period of two years, with effect from Friday, January 1, 2021 to Saturday, December 31, 2022. Read more
Soyinka, Omisore, Ighodalo, Opeyemi on condolence visit to Odumakin’s widow (Tribune)
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Wednesday was at the Omole Lagos residence of the late spokesperson of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, on a condolence visit, describing the deceased as a doughty fighter.
Odumakin died last Friday at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital LASUTH), following complications arising from COVID-19.
Soyinka, who arrived at Odumakin’s residence around afternoon, was received by the deceased’s wife, Dr. Joe Okei- Odumakin, who is president of a rights group, Women Arise Initiative (WAI).
While consoling the widow, Soyinka said that Yinka, the Afenifere spokesperson had always displayed uncommon courage. Read more

One of the freed five students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Francis Paul, a 200- level student of Agricultural Technology, said their abductors don’t know God.
He said they fed them with unknown plants and stream water.
Paul said while he is happy for being freed from the kidnappers den, he feels bad remembering his 34 other colleagues are still in captivity.

Social media especially twitter is agog over an alleged impostor with the stage name “Wisekid” who pulled a fast one on unsuspecting Wizkid fans.
Wisekid with the real name Hosea Yohanna was alleged to have uploaded a replica of Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album on apple music, thereby diverting traffic to his music.
The tracklist of the replica album dubbed “Lasgidi Made” sighted by The Nation, shares identical title to Wizkid’s album, hoodwinking unsuspecting music lovers, especially Wizkid fans. Read more
Females performed better in 2021 WASSCE (Tribune)
The results of the first series of the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for this year have been released. The results were released on Tuesday in Lagos by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) which conducted the exam between February and March for private candidates spread across 252 centres nationwide.
A total of 7,690 candidates sat for the examination, out of which only 2,195 (representing 30.11 per cent) obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects including English language and General mathematics.
32.23 per cent, 26.08 per cent and 17. 50 per cent of the total candidates who sat 2020, 2019 and the 2018 maiden editions of the diet respectively obtained similar results, an indication of a marginal decrease of 2.12 per cent in performance when compared with last year outing. Read more

Fuji star, Wasiu Alabi Ajibola aka Pasuma has recounted how an impersonator had swindled his fans of a whopping sum of N13 million.
Pasuma narrated how an individual had impersonated him using a Facebook account to extort money from his fans.
The 53-year-old singer who just returned from Cairo made the revelation in an Instagram live interview. Pasuma said he was invited by the police over the incident and when he got to the police station they showed him a fraudster who had been impersonating him on Facebook and had collected over N13 million from his fans. Strip club workers staged a protest outside Bristol Town Hall on Tuesday over controversial plans to shut down the city’s two main sexual entertainment venues (SEVs). Campaigners say more than 100 jobs will be lost if the council’s licensing committee goes ahead with a proposal to withdraw licences for Central Chambers and Urban Tiger. Women who work in the two clubs, along with members of the campaign group Bristol Sex Workers Collective, organised a photoshoot outside the town hall on Tuesday to stop the proposed ban, which was one of Mayor Marvin Rees’s 2016 election pledges. The British public would prefer Prince William be crowned as the next monarch — instead of his dad, heir apparent Prince Charles, according to a new poll.
Almost half of those surveyed by Deltapoll (47 percent) want William to be king when the reign of 94-year-old Queen Elizabeth II ends.

Dubai will deport the 11 Ukrainian women who were arrested for public debauchery after they turned heads in the emirate by posing nude on a high-rise balcony in a stunt that quickly went viral, according to reports.
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates detained the cheeky women along with a male Russian photographer on charges of public debauchery and producing pornography.
Images of the public display of nudity made waves across social media and shocked sensibilities throughout the sheikhdom, where a legal code based on Islamic law, or Shariah, has landed foreigners in the slammer for lesser offenses.
Dubai’s Attorney General Essam Issa al-Humaidan on Tuesday announced that those behind the controversial photoshoot would be sent back to their countries, without elaborating further. Read more
Kenya Lamu mosque: Anger over T-shirt worn by Jay-Z (BBC)
A US-based designer has apologised for using a portrait of a historic mosque in Kenya’s island of Lamu on a T-shirt worn by celebrity Jay-Z, an official in charge of the site has told the BBC.
Riyadha Mosque’s leaders had objected to the T-shirt as it could be worn to “sacrilegious joints” like bars.
“We have accepted the apology letter because it was done in good faith,” the mosque official said.
Designer Zeddie Loky reportedly produced the T-shirt to promote Lamu. Read more

FIFA bans Chad indefinitely from global football over government interference (BBC)
FIFA has banned Chad from global football until further notice over government interference in the running of the country’s football federation.
The move comes after the minister of youth and sports dissolved the Federation of Chad Football Associations in March.
After the announcement by the Chadian government the Confederation of African Football disqualified the national team from last month’s final two rounds of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Chad do not have any upcoming international fixtures having been knocked out of 2022 World Cup qualifying by Sudan in 2019. Read more

Tiger Woods car crash: Golfing great drove at almost double the speed limit (BBC)
Tiger Woods was driving close to double the 45mph speed limit when he crashed in February, according to Los Angeles County’s sheriff.
The 15-time major champion, 45, had to be “extricated from the wreck” of his car by firefighters and paramedics.
Woods’ car left the road at about 84-87mph and flipped several times during the accident in California. Read more
Former Giants receiver Travis Rudolph arrested on first-degree murder charge (NYPost)
Former Giants receiver Travis Rudolph is being held without bond in Florida after he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, the Palm Beach County Sherriff’s Office announced.
The 25-year-old Rudolph was taken into custody Wednesday morning following a double shooting in Palm Beach County that left one man dead and another injured and taken to a nearby hospital. The sheriff’s office said Rudolph is also being charged for shooting at two other people who were not injured. His first court appearance will be on Thursday.
After going undrafted in 2017, Rudolph signed with the Giants and appeared in seven regular-season games, making eight receptions for 101 yards. He was waived in September 2018 and later picked up by the Dolphins. On his first day of practice, Rudolph tore his ACL. Read more
