19-year-old suspected cultist arrested in Bariga (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday, June 30, 2019 said it had arrested a 19-year-old member of the Aiye Confraternity in Bariga area of the state.
The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, said that operatives of the Bariga Police Division arrested the suspected cult member on June 26, at Odo-Eran Street, Bariga.
Elkana, in a statement issued in Lagos, said that the suspect had been on the wanted list of the Police for the murder of one Ojo Taiwo in February 2019, at Bariga. Read more
43-year-old arraigned for trafficking in tramadol (Punch)
A 43-year-old man, Abdullahi Salisu, on Wednesday, appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly trafficking in 104kg of tramadol.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency charged Salisu with unlawful possession of four cartons of 225mg tramadol weighing 104kg.
He was arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo. Read more
Cocaine dealer bags three years (Nation)
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 55-year-old man, Francis Charles Okafor, to three years imprisonment for illegally dealing in cocaine.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo convicted Okafor after he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on a one-count charge of illegal possession of the prohibited narcotics.
Justice Oweibo said: “I have considered the evidence before me, the plea of the convict for mercy, the promise to never go into crime again and the fact that that there was no record of previous conviction. Read more
BRT driver in court over alleged manslaughter (Punch)
A Bus Rapid Transit driver, Theophilus Nsofor, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of a 25-year-old woman.
The police charged Nsofor, who resides in Ijoko area of Ogun State, with reckless driving, manslaughter and driving without particulars.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Victor Eruada told the court that Nsofor committed the alleged offence on May 27, at Iyana-Ipaja Road by Danco Filling Station, Lagos. Read more
Man accused of hiring assassin (Nation)
An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered that 34-year-old Ndubuisi Ugo remanded following his arraignment for allegedly hiring an assassin for a 33-year-old man.
Magistrate Tolu Agbona ordered that the case file be sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

27-year-old man arrested in Lagos for burglary (Punch)
The police have arrested one Thompson David, 27, of No. 21 Abeokuta Street, Bariga, Lagos, for burgling a house.
David was said to have scaled the fence of No. 15 Oyenuga Street, Akoka, Bariga, and stole property worth N95,000 from the apartment of one Richard Ifediora.
An eyewitness, identified simply as Babajide, said there had been a high rate of burglary in Bariga and its environs. Read more
Three held for robbing women of cash, phones (Nation)
Three men on Monday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing two women of cash and valuables worth N512,000.
Magistrate Bukola Mogaji granted them N100,000 bail each. They are Adebayo Afolayan, Joseph James and Collins Achiwabor.
Afolayan, 27, a car dealer, James, 27, a scaffolder, and Achiwabor, 29, a computer Engineer, pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy and stealing. Read more
Trader blames friend after losing $19,000 in forex trade (Punch)
A forex trader, Kayode Adeyemi, has accused his friend, Pius Nsikan, of inviting three of his business partners to defraud him of $19,000 (N4m).
Adeyemi said Nsikan convinced him to part with the money and that his friends would pay the naira equivalent on receiving a confirmation of the transaction.
He added that since he was made to part with the sum, Nsikan alongside his partners, Ken Onwuka, Josephine Iyama, and Patrick Ikeji, had refused to pay him back. Read more
Artisan ‘robs’ man of phones (Nation)
A 20-year-old artisan, Ayuba Isah, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a man of his two phones worth N74,000 with a cutlass.
Isah, who lives at Dopemu area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge on conspiracy and stealing before Magistrate O.O. Ekundayo.
Prosecutor Inspector Josephine Ikhayere said the defendant committed the offence on May 27 at Agege. Read more
