Man loses 11-year-old marriage for threatening wife’s life with gun (Nation)
An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Thursday dissolved an 11-year-old marriage between Jolomi and Osaryekeme Odometa, over threat to her life.
The court president, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye said that since the petitioner, Osaryekeme, insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court was left with no option other than to grant her wish and pronounced the union dissolved.
“The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Mrs Osaryekeme Odometa and Mr Jolomi Odometa dissolved today, both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife. Read more
Court sentences baker to 13 years’ imprisonment for raping teenager (Punch)
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, on Tuesday, sentenced a 22-year-old baker, Lawal Kamoru, to 13 years imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl.
Justice Raliat Adebiyi found Kamoru guilty of the one count of defilement levelled against him by the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the convict and three others at large, had on February 1, 2014, gang-raped the victim inside an uncompleted building on Oluwanishola Street in the Ilaje, Bariga area of the state. Read more
Unemployed man bags a year jail term for stealing phone inside mosque (Nation)
An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Yusuf Mojeed, to one-year imprisonment for stealing a phone inside a mosque.
Mojeed, whose residential address was not given, was arraigned on June 14, on one-count charge of stealing.
He pleaded guilty to the charge. Read more
Phone thief jailed one year (Nation)
An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Yusuf Mojeed, to one-year imprisonment for stealing a N40,000 phone in a mosque.
Magistrate O.O. Adeshina convicted Mojeed after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.
The sentence took effect from June 14 when the convict was arraigned. Read more
Panel beater remanded for snatching vehicles at gunpoint (Punch)
A 26-year-old panel beater, Ahmed Lawal, has been remanded in prison by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing two men of their vehicles.
Lawal, who lives in the Idiroko area of Ogun State, is facing four counts bordering on conspiracy and robbery.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Akinde, ruled that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions as the defendant’s plea was not taken. Read more
Court remands two men in prison for ‘defiling’ orphan, 13 (Nation)
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded two men at Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old orphan.
The prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told the court that the men – Olabisi Olaniawo, 35, and Busayo Adeshope, 27 – were foster father and step-brother to the victim when they committed the offence at their homes between 2015 and 2019.
They are facing a lone count of child defilement before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi. Read more
Suspect ‘robs’ with toy gun (Nation)
An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded 21-year-old Samson Obinna, who allegedly used a toy gun to rob a man of a N40,000 cell phone.
Obinna pleaded guilty.

Man allegedly impersonates Naval officer (Punch)
The police on Wednesday arraigned a 60-year-old man, Martins Anyakoro on in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly posing as a Naval officer.
Anyakoro was charged with two counts of impersonation and breach of peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 13 at 6:30 p.m, at the Navy Base FOB Badagry, Lagos. Read more
Two charged with kidnapping (Nation)
An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded in prison Charles Amakanyadioha, 52, and Raphel Amaechi, 52, following their arraignment for alleged kidnapping of three children.
Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo made the order after Amakanyadioha and Amaechi pleaded not guilty.
Mrs Adedayo adjourned till June 25. Read more
