Young man killed while joining cult (Punch)

A 26-year-old artisan, identified simply as Timehin, has been killed during cult initiation rites in the Awoyaya area of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Tuesday that the incident occurred on July 18, when suspected members of a rival cult group ambushed the initiation ground.

It was gathered that Timehin had been taken into a nearby bush late in the evening to be initiated as a recruit into the cult group. Read more 

Police arraign 2 suspects over welder’s disappearance, theft in Lagos (Guardian)

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), yesterday, arraigned 45-year-old Ifagbenga Shofoluwe and 26-year-old Yahaya Shofoluwe before the Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Oyingbo, Ebute-Metta, for kidnapping and theft.

They were arraigned on two-count charge bordering on kidnapping and stealing, which the prosecution stated were punishable under section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Count one of the charges read: “That you and others still at large, at Topo Idale, Badagry, Lagos, conspired to commit felony, namely kidnapping of Jamiu Ishola and stealing, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. (Read more)

5 arraigned for illegal waste dumping in Lagos (Punch)

No fewer than five individuals have been arraigned before a mobile court in the Bolade area of Oshodi, Lagos State, for allegedly dumping refuse in prohibited areas. 

PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the enforcement team of the Lagos Waste Management Authority.

Those arrested were identified as Sunday Chidiebere, Favour Odoh, Daniel Okunola, Michael Obi, and Amaka Abel. They were allegedly caught dumping refuse along the median at Ago Palace Way in the Okota area of the state. (Read more)

2 bag prison sentences for cybercrime (Guardian)

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Damelda Damilola Sodiq and Samuel Paul Osayande to one year imprisonment each for cybercrime.

The duo were arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Ipaja Command area of Lagos in May and subsequently arraigned on June 27.

During investigations, it was revealed that Sodiq and Osayande had three bank accounts domiciled in United Bank of Africa (UBA), Opay and Moniepoint, as well as several email accounts , which they used to defraud unsuspecting victims. Read more

Man arrested for killing girlfriend in Lagos hotel (Punch)

A man identified as Amos Daniel has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman believed to be his girlfriend in a hotel located in the Ayobo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday. It was gathered that Daniel checked into the hotel around 5 pm with some friends, while a female joined them later. A strange noise was, however, heard from their room at about 10 pm, drawing the attention of others in the hotel.

Speaking to our correspondent on Saturday, one of the guests who identified himself simply as Adio said the security unit was immediately alerted, and upon opening the room, he discovered the lifeless body of the deceased. (Read more)

7 years after, NDLEA arrests wanted drug kingpin (Guardian) 

Operatives from a special unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 60-year-old wanted drug kingpin, Okpara Paul Chigozie, after seven years of avoiding the law.

He was caught trying to ship large quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine to the South-East and other parts of Nigeria.

Okpara had been on the NDLEA wanted list since 2019 and was finally apprehended at 72, Michael Ojo Street, Isheri, in Ojo area of Lagos State on Sunday, July 13, 2025. (Read more)

Judge discharges drug trafficker on health grounds (Punch)

Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday cautioned and discharged a female drug offender, Isoken Arigbe, on compassionate grounds following her conviction for unlawful possession of 66 grams of methamphetamine.

Arigbe was discharged after pleading guilty to a one-count charge filed against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

She was arrested on May 23, 2025, at the Lekki Gardens Phase 2 Junction in Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

During proceedings, the NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. A.G. Yuanyuam, told the court that the matter was for the arraignment of Arigbe, adding that the charge was ready to be read to the convict. (Read more)

Court convicts 15 Chinese nationals for cyberterrorism, internet fraud (Guardian)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 has secured the conviction and sentencing of 15 Chinese nationals for cyberterrorism and internet fraud.

The sentencing took place before Justice Ayokunle Faji and Justice Dehinde Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The convicted individuals, identified as Ling Yang, Xiao Hong Will, Wang Zheng Ming, Wang Jia Qi, Yang Sheng, Peng Sen Lin, Guo Xiao Fei, Chen An Shun, Zhao Ying Bin, Yu Zi (also known as Wei Xue Huan), Zhang Yang, Wang Zhi Cheng, and Lu Yubo, were arraigned on separate charges related to their involvement in cyberterrorism and internet fraud schemes.
