The Lagos State Government has commenced the demolition of illegal shops built directly under high-tension cables at Adamo Market, Ikorodu.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known in a statement on Thursday, explaining that the removal of the shops is in line with the governmentโ€™s mandate to ensure the safety of lives and adherence to environmental laws.

Wahab said this dangerous encroachment not only violates the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, but also poses a serious threat to human lives and infrastructure.

โ€œDue to the scale of infractions discovered during our inspection, we have ordered the immediate closure of the market until further notice,โ€ the commissioner wrote on X.โ€œ

Our goal is not just enforcement, but the protection of all residents. (Guardian)
