Lagos driver flees after setting LASTMA officer on fire (Punch)
A commercial driver is on the run after causing bodily injuries to an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in the Mile 2 area of the state on Tuesday.
The LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.
According to Taofiq, LASTMA operatives had accosted the driver for violating traffic regulations but he resisted arrest. Read more
Police arrest owner as dogs maul security guard to death in Lagos (Leadership)
A yet-to-be-identified man has been viciously attacked and killed by security dogs in Pinnock Estate in highbrow Lekki area of Lagos.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a social media user with the handle @itzbasito, the security guard was seen lying dead with the Boerboel dogs seen approaching his lifeless body.
A source stated that the owner of the dogs unknowingly let them loose which resulted in the attack that claimed the life of the estate guard on Monday, November 4,2024. Read more

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced that the 16 -year admission benchmark into tertiary institutions remains.
Alausa spoke at his inaugural briefing in Abuja on Tuesday with the Minister of State for Education, Dr Suwaiba Ahmad and Permanent Secretary, Dr Nasiru Sani-Gwarzo.

4 killed in renewed Benue cult clash (DailyTrust)
At least four people have been killed in an alleged fresh cult clash at North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi metropolis in Benue State.
Residents, who preferred anonymity, told our correspondent on Monday that the suspected cultists in a supremacy fight hacked four persons to death within one week.
It was gathered that a building was also set ablaze on Tuesday afternoon as the fight between the rival cult groups intensified.
The residents claimed that two cult groups popularly referred to as Black and Red respectively had turned the North Bank vicinity into a theatre of war, causing people to run helter skelter. Read more

The Police Command in Yobe State said it did not detain any minor in connection with August 1 protests against hardship in some parts of the state.
The command’s spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Tuesday.

The film also features violinist María Dueñas as a talented young violinist named Elisa, drawing parallels with the determined spirit of Parlow. Although it is a work of fiction, there are autobiographical elements, as Bohdanowicz’s grandfather was in fact a student of Parlow – the same as the protagonist in the film. Read more
Michael Jackson biopic delays release to fall 2025 (THR)
Lionsgate is planning a busy fall of 2025, as it now has two top titles set for that stretch.
The company announced Tuesday that “Michael”, its Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua, is now slated to hit theaters in wide release on Oct. 3, 2025. The feature is moving back by six months from its previously planned release on April 18, 2025.
Starring in the title role is Jaafar Jackson, who is the nephew of the late pop superstar, while Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo round out the cast. Fuqua helms from a script by John Logan for the project that counts Graham King, John Branca and John McClain as producers. Read more

Netflix’s offices in Paris and Amsterdam were raided by French and Dutch authorities on Tuesday as part of a tax fraud investigation.
Specialist financial investigators searched “various locations” in France in connection with allegations of “covering up serious tax fraud and off-the-books work” as part of a probe that has been running since 2022, a judicial source told news agency AFP.
The US streaming giant’s Amsterdam headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa was also searched by a team of officials from both France and the Netherlands. Read more
Suspect arrested for Oisterwijk art theft in which two Warhol “Queens” were stolen (NLTimes)
The police arrested a 23-year-old man for involvement in a burglary at an art gallery in Oisterwijk on Friday in which two artworks by Andy Warhol were stolen. It is unclear whether the art was recovered.
The thieves set off an explosion at the MPV Gallery on Dorpsstraat in Oisterwijk early on Friday morning and tried to steal the four artworks of Warhol’s Reigning Queens series, which were on display at the gallery.
They managed to make off with two of them – the British Queen Elizabeth and Queen Margrethe of Denmark. The portraits of Queen Beatrix and Queen Ntombi Twala were recovered at the gallery, both still in their frames, a spokesperson for the gallery previously said. Read more

Protests have erupted in Israel after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired the country’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
Netanyahu said a “crisis of trust” between the two leaders led to his decision, adding that his trust in Gallant had “eroded” in recent months and Foreign Minister Israel Katz would step in to replace him.

Queen Camilla, wife of Britain’s King Charles III, has been forced to pull out of her planned engagements this week after suffering a chest infection, Buckingham Palace said on Tuesday.
Camilla, 77, is resting at home while she recovers but no further details of her illness have been given, as is usual with royal medical issues.
